My Yorkie is constipated and won't eat. Can I give him cottage cheese?

It's definitely a good sign that he is eating and acting normally, so you can try to treat for constipation at home. I'm sorry to hear that Buddy is not feeling well. If a dog is very constipated oftentimes they will stop eating because they have an overall feeling of fullness. Since I don't know what other medications Buddy is on it is hard to know what to recommend in this instance. Of course calling or taking him to see your vet that prescribed the medication would be a good starting point. If you are unable to do that at this time some things you can do at home are making sure he's drinking plenty of water (because sometime dehydration can lead to constipation) and trying to get him to eat something with a lot of fiber such as canned pumpkin. If these suggestions aren't working I would take Buddy in to see your vet. Sometimes there is a serious underlying problem to constipstion and you dog may need fluid therapy, an enema and/or a diet change.

Unfortunately his anorexia and lethargy are very general signs of illness, and could be caused by things such a systemic illness, infection, inflammation, or injury. The constipation could be due to dehydration, a foreign body, not enough fiber in the diet, lack of exercise, enlarged prostate gland, a mass in the GI tract, or blocked or abscessed anal sacs. The trembling could be due to pain or fever. Given he has a number of symptoms that all together could be caused by something serious, I think it's best you take him into a vet asap to get checked out. I hope this helps!

I'm sorry to hear that you and Ollie have been sick. Yes, we certainly worry about small dogs getting dehydrated from vomiting and diarrhea. If the vomiting has resolved, you could consider mixing water (or low sodium chicken broth) in with his food to make sure he doesn't get dehydrated. If Ollie is not eating, continues to vomit, doesn't feel well, has blood in his diarrhea or the diarrhea continues, I would recommend having your vet evaluate him. I hope that was helpful! The diet you are feeding is lacking in vitamins and minerals but I doubt that is causing the issue. I recommend taking Jessi to a vet to determine she's constipated and not straining because of diarrhea. If that's the case, I recommend having her stool tested for parasites and an X-ray to confirm constipation. After she is well, I would transition her to a commercially made puppy food. In the US I like Hills, Royal Canin, or Iams. Good luck and kisses to Jessi!

Sorbitol is a common ingredient in laxatives and stool softeners. It is not toxic to dogs, but large quantities may cause stomach upset (vomiting or diarrhea). Given by your vet at an appropriate dose, it is quite safe.

As long as Molly is not straining to pass stools, is not vomiting and her energy level is high, you should monitor her at home. Most of the dogs will poop within 1hr after eating, so please see if she poops after the next meal. However, if she does not pass any stools in the next 12-18hrs, a visit to your local vets will be recommended. The tablets that she is taking don't have any effect on the defecation but they may cause mild diarrhea.
