My 10-month-old beagle puppy's coat is changing color. Is it normal?

Hi, my beagle is 10 months old and her coat seems to be changing color. She had sharp patching until two months ago, and now it appears diffused. Is it normal? Please help

Yes, this is normal. Form your pictures Eva looks to have a very normal coat pattern for a Beagle. Puppies can change coat colors and patterns as they grow up.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It isn’t uncommon for dogs coat colors to change as they get older. There are also some disease processes that can change coat color. To be sure, I would recommend having a vet take a closer look to make sure there are no microscopic mites or metabolic changes. Good luck and kisses to Dassy!

This may be a normal aging change for her. As puppies lose their puppy coats the adult fur can change color and the skin pigment can darken also. If the skin looks normal with no sores I wouldn't worry about it. If she is itchy that may cause changes in the skin color. A veterinary visit is indicated if you are seeing abnormal areas on the skin.

It isn't abnormal for the puppy pink skin to darkened in these area to a uniform greyish brown color. the skin should still be soft and not "elephant" like which indicates excessive licking. My puppy's stomach is darkening. Is this a normal skin pigment change?

Thank you for asking the question about Harley. If she is not itchy then it may just be pigment change to her skin. Lots of breeds can have changes to their skin and Hair coat as they mature. My dog has new dark spots on her skin after grooming. Is it normal?

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Many dogs normally have darker pigmented areas of skin under their fur. In some dogs, this does pigment can increase with age. It is impossible to tell only from a photograph however if this is normal pigment. She would need to be assessed by a veterinarian with a physical exam to determine if there is cause for concern.
