My cocker spaniel's cloudy, bloodshot eye keeps returning after drops?

It sounds like she may have injured the surface of the eye such as from a scratch - the cloudy blue is swelling in the cornea of clear part of the front of the eye. Please have her checked urgently to identify and treat the underlying cause and pain as well as to reduce the risk of long term scarring

Hi, I'm Dr. Johnson. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Poor Moxie! It's hard to tell 100% in the picture exactly what is going on. I wonder if Moxie is part Cocker Spaniel. Anytime I hear about a red eye I worry. The cloudiness could be edema in the cornea from increased pressure, inflammation or a corneal ulcer. Cocker Spaniels are at risk for glaucoma which is increased pressure with in the eye. Any new change in the eye I consider urgent. I recommend you see a Veterinarian now if painful. The Vet would stain the eye to look for a corneal scratch then check the intra-ocular pressure with an instrument to check for increased pressure (glaucoma) or low pressure (uveitis). Good luck!

A cloudy eye can be caused by many conditions, i am surprised your vet prescribed Steroids only- without any antibiotic drops as it is impossible to rule out an eye infection just by looking at the eye. my first choice of treatment would have been an antibiotic drop rather than steroids.

However, there are some other diseases that really need a very thorough evaluation of the eye to diagnose. I think that if he has not improved on the current therapy, it may be a good idea to check in with your veterinarian. If they are concerned based on their knowledge of his case, they could consider having you consult with a veterinary ophthalmologist. Since Toby has not improved on his medications, I highly recommend that you have Toby reevaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. It is not safe to use human medications without knowing the exact medical condition as some treatments can actually worsen the patient's condition when used inadequately. It sounds like Lacey may have an eye infection. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any eye problem should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would have Lacey seen by a vet immediately. The vet can diagnose that she has an eye infection, and can treat her for it.
