Why does my dog have clear, watery, odorless vaginal discharge?

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Female | spayed | 1 year and 5 months old | 38 lbs

My dog has water-like clear thin liquid discharge coming from her vagina, enough where I first mistaked it for her peeing in my bed! It has no odor or color. This happened once before and I thought she had a random accident while sleeping because it never happened again. But I’m noticing it again now (months later). She’s isn’t showing any other symptoms, and acting fine. Thanks!!

This could be due to a form of recurrent vaginitis, usually juvenile form of vaginitis can cause that without having serious consequences. Should you notice any systemic signs (inappetence, lethargy for example) or more intense discharge, I would suggest a check up otherwise no further action has to be taken as these forms of inflammation can be self limiting.

She could have a recurring vaginitis because of the damp environment of the diapers. I would get her seen by your vet to be sure and see what needs to be done about it. If she can go for periods of time without the diapers to let her rear dry and let air circulate that would be ideal but I understand that may not be feasible.

Hi, if the liquid is coming out from her genital area, it could either be an infection (very common in older female dogs that have not been neutered) or if your dog is young could be juvenile vaginitis. She is grooming the area in order to keep it clean, I would not worry about this. I would recommend to have your dog checked over as is she has an infection she will need treatment ASAP. Why does my female dog have clear, stringy vaginal discharge?

Hi, has she been passing urine outside ? If so would you be able to take a urine sample ? I would then consider to have an abdominal ultrasound done on Yuzu, it can be done without an anaesthetic and it will give you more information about a possible pyrometra or any other abnormalities in the abdomen. If an ultrasound does not provide all the information required, then X-rays would be my next suggestion. Hope this helps,

My dog has slight vaginal odor and discharge. Should I see a vet?

Unfortunately without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain if the white discharge and smell is a major concern. It could be a sign of a pyometra, and that is fatal without treatment. To be safe, I think it's best you take her into a vet now to get checked out. Best of luck.

My 2-month-old female puppy has vaginal discharge. What should I do?

Delilah is too young to be going into heat, so this discharge could be caused by juvenile vaginitis. This is inflammation of the vagina in puppies who have not yet reach puberty. I would have Delilah seen by a vet first thing tomorrow for this. The vet can examine her, determine if she does have juvenile vaginitis, and can prescribe a treatment for it. Typically, it involves daily cleaning of the vulva if it is a mild case with no complicating infection.

My spayed dog has clear gooey vaginal discharge. What is it?

Discharge from this area can either be coming from the urinary tract (uti, etc ) or reproductive tract. Likely your vet will rule out uti first with a urinalysis and urine culture. A sterile vaginal exam may also be recommended. If persistent and not related to a uti then it may become important to make sure she was properly spayed. My unspayed female dog has milky white discharge. What's wrong?

Some discharge is normal but it is generally clearish or slightly opaque. Vaginal discharge can indicate an infection in the uterus. I recommend to have her examined today in case this discharge is related to a uterine infection. Uterine infections can lead to a life threatening septicemia so it's best to play it safe.
