Have him seen by your veterinarian. The most common, and easiest to treat, cause is full or impacted anal glands. Normally, the anal glands are emptied during the act of defecation. In some dogs, this doesn't happen and the glands fill up, become impacted and could abscess. This would result in the symptoms described. Your veterinarian can Express the glands manually, flush them and instill medication if necessary. Antibiotics and pain medications are also sometimes dispensed. If Scooby is licking back there, place an e-collar (cone) on him until he sees the doctor.

Poor Buddy! This is a common behavior when they have full anal glands. Anal glands are 2 glands, one on each side of the anus, that holds a foul smelling material. They are there to help naturally lubricate a dog's bowel movements, but not all dogs properly express them. I would take him to your vet clinic and see if they can express his anal glands. Also, he could also act this way and lick everything if he is really itchy, anxious or just uncomfortable. If he doesn't improve after his anal glands are expressed, then I would have your vet take a look at him to ensure he doesn't have an infection or something else going on causing these behaviors. It could be his anal glands, he could have an infection or an impaction, i would recommend taking him to your vet to get it checked ASAP. if the anal glands are infected he will need a course of antibiotics, if they are impacted they will need to be manually emptied.

Your dog could be looking back at his behind because there is something there causing him pain. Milo could have an anal gland impaction or rupture causing him pain, he could be very constipated, or he could have painful gas. I recommend taking him into the vet in the morning to diagnose why is causing him to act this way, and to receive the correct treatment for it. If his anal sacs are impacted, he will need them expressed. If they have abscessed or ruptured, the area will need to be cleaned and he will need antibiotics. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

It could be that the anal glands are inflamed from being full or from the pressure of being expressed. If it continues call your Vet they may just prescribe something over the phone or want to recheck him. I usually prescribe a steroid taper for things like this. Good luck!

This sounds like Riley may be in pain on his hind end. He may have an anal sac problem such as an anal sac impaction or infection or abscess. Another problem could be that his hips are hurting, a sprain or other trauma to his hind end. I suggest you take him to a veterinarian for an exam. An anal sac problem (which is very painful) can be easily treated, whereas a musculo-skeletal problem may need x-rays to determine the condition and treatment.

It sounds like Kamber may have full anal glands. This is often how they behave if that is the case. If they are full and go untreated an infection can occur. In the meantime you can feed her a couple tablespoons of canned pumpkin per day as this may help. Used pure pumpkin and not the pie filling.
