Is Chlorambucil safe for my dog around pregnant family?

Chloramphenicol is known to cause aplastic anemia in people, which means that it can reduce your red blood cell count and cause bone marrow suppression (this is reversible). This effect has not been demonstrated as much in animals though, so we do use it for certain conditions. We often limit our usage of this drug, because of the potential for toxicity towards people, so the vet is probably treating a condition where this drug is known to be exceptionally effective and the benefit outweighs the risk. While this drug is not recommended in neonates (puppies that are just born), it is OK to use with a five month old, so I wouldn't worry too much unless you start to notice some additional problems with Ziggy. We always recommend administrating the drug to your pet with caution, because of the potential toxic effects, but the reality is that you are not likely to get a significant enough dose to cause any toxic effects from just touching the pill or being in contact with secretions. Most chemo is excreted in the urine, which is problematic as Luigi likely uses a litter box. Most chemo agents can be toxic to the bone marrow, which is responsible for making all of the blood cells. This is concerning because white blood cells, which are responsible for preventing infections, are often killed. This can be dangerous to a baby, as their immune systems are not fully developed. You can go to a veterinary oncologist, who specializes in cancers, for a second opinion. They can present different treatment options, including less toxic options such as steroids. I would contact your Vet for Fipronil products or look online. I am assuming by "children" you mean the puppies and not human children. If you want to tell me the name of the shampoo and the chewable tablet I can look in to it's safety. I do not recommend vaccinating pregnant dogs. I hope this helps!

Doxycycline is not a drug of choice used during pregnancy, especially the second and third trimester with the main risks related to abnormal tooth and bone development, with permanent staining of the baby teeth, but if the health of the mother is at risk then the benefits may outweigh the risks. If she is now heavily pregnant I would continue to use as stopping now will not affect outcome, if however you think she is less than 3-4weeks pregnant and she had not been critically ill then it may be worth considering stopping treatment whilst aware that the initial disease symptoms may return or worsen if not fully cured. If Watson groomed the other cats, it could potentially cause the vomiting. I would have the other two checked out by a vet to be safe, and keep Watson isolated while you are giving him this medication. They shouldn't be affected from using his preferred litter box or by grooming his head, but him licking them can cause problems. I hope this helps.

There is always some risk in medicating a pregnant bitch. Depending on what specific liver disease she has and what medication is recommended, sometime it can be safe to start the medication when they are pregnant and sometimes it is better to wait. Your vet that diagnosed the liver issue should be able to guide you in making the decision of whether or not you should start Kulet on medication. For this reason, I do not recommend using this as we do not know if it could interact negatively with the chemotherapy.
