My cat is on chlorambucil. Can other cats get sick and vomit?

There is not very much drug residue in the saliva, but we normally recommend against allowing an animal receiving the drug to lick you. I would not worry about a normal wet nose. They have not studied the effect of the drug on other cats in the house, but I would discourage Chester from licking the other cat and may consider keeping them separated if Chester grooms the other cat a lot, but a bite of food woudn't be enough to concern me. There is more drug residue in the urine and stool, so that would be a larger concern. Here is the reference in a drug handbook for this drug. "On the day your animal gets the drug and then for a few days afterward, all bodily waste (urine, feces, litter), blood, or vomit should only be handled while wearing disposable gloves. Seal the waste in a plastic bag and then place both the bag and gloves in with the regular trash." The reason for the double bagging is to have a back up if one bag gets a hole in it and to make sure that the first bag is sealed. I hope that was helpful and answered your questions. Couple of concerns here. Were you given an option of referral to obtain a definitive diagnosis? Differentiation of these diseases requires biopsy. Did your pet have an ultrasound? Also having a chemotherapy medication made in to a liquid is a big safety concern unless a pet has a feeding tube. Were you counseled about safe drug and urine/fecal handling with this drug? Also has your kitty had blood monitoring with this drug for safety? There are typically some other things we do with cats with GI disease but this is case dependent. Also the dosing for chlorambucil is different for different cats. What would really be best, if you feel that you need more help beyond your vet, you could request referral to a specialist (either an internist or an oncologist). No, this is not a reaction to the death of the other cat, it is a medical condition, most probably a gastrointestinal infection. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

The medications Tapatipo was given to sedate him may be causing the vomiting, but since I don't know what medication he was given, I can't say for certain. Certain anesthetic drugs can cause vomiting. I am concerned that he is vomiting but yet still appears to be sedated, and my worry is that he could aspirate on his vomit. To be safe, I would take him into a vet immediately to be checked out. Best of luck.

I'm sorry that you are dealing with this with Laundry. There are a number of anti-nausea medications that can be helpful for Laundry. And if your veterinarian has not recently checked his blood work (including a thyroid level) and blood pressure, I would certainly recheck those values to make sure that they are normal. Then, you can discuss the best anti-nausea medication with your veterinarian to help Laundry feel better. They will not want to do a teeth cleaning on him if he is not feeling well, so be sure to have them evaluate Laundry and solve this problem first. Good luck! I hope that was helpful. I think if you are regularly changing the litter you and your cats will be fine. As long as there is not prolonged exposure to urine and feces there is little risk. To further lower the risk to your other cats make sure you are cleaning out the litter box 1-2 times daily and consider adding an additional box to your home if is feasible. It sounds like you are doing your very best and Chester is lucky to have an owner as dedicated as you are!

I am sorry we didn't answer your question sooner. Hopefully you have heard from your vet by now. The tissue in the picture is actually a couple of hairballs. I would recommend talking to your vet about what may be the best option for preventing additional hairballs (medications, dietary change, shaving the hair, etc).
