My pug has chin bumps. Is it acne or an allergy to plastic bowls?

This looks like a mild infection which is likely an extension of chin acne. This is usually treated with benzoyl peroxide wipes (i.e. Stridex pads) and oral antibiotics. Antihistamines are also often used to help resolve this and some pets requrire steroid thereapy to get this to subside. This is usually caused by a skin allergy which can be from something in then environment or a food allergy. Make sure you are using stainless steel food and water bowls. Then wipe the area twice a day with stridex pads. If there are several pustules and scabs then I would contact your vet for antibiotics in order to help it get under control. Once under control, you can add the Stridex pads to help maintain it. Usually antibiotics and long-term topical care (e.g. medicated wipes and ointments) will prevent this condition from progressing. In Asher's case oral antibiotics may be indicated. Poor Raven. You did well by changing the bowls because it's believed that plastic bowls can cause an allergic reaction in some pets. Really the only way to treat this is with medication to flush the follicles and then treating the secondary bacterial infections. Topical creams or wipes that contain Benzoyl peroxide (Stridex pads) have been used with some success. And then you will need to visit your vet to get a short course of antibiotics prescribed. These look like acne type lesions to me and can occur in dogs secondary to allergies or contact hypersensitivity from things like plastic food bowls. A skin growth or insect bite might be another possibility. I'd recommend having your vet take a look in person to determine what these are - they might recommend taking a sample using a small needle to examine under the microscope.

Nova can get pimples just like humans. It is very common in bulldogs, boxers and other breeds that have large jowls as the chin tends to stay more moist and humid. You can get some special pads from your veterinarian that are safe to use and pets that you can use to cleanse the area. Keeping her food and water bowls very clean can help. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is likely allergies because of the multifocal nature of the lesions and the appearance. Generally allergies are broken down into 3 big categories: flea allergy (dogs can still get fleas even if they do not go outside much), food allergy and environmental allergies. This is not necessarily life threatening but it is a matter of quality of life so working up is recommended. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively! Good luck and have a great day!
