Why does my dog have a chin bump, swollen nose, and shake his head?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be a benign or malignant growth. This could also be an abscess or indicative of an infection primarily. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Possible causes are a deep bacterial skin infection (deep pyoderma), demodex (non-contagious mite) and Juvenile Cellulitus (puppy strangles). I recommend you take the to the Vet. Consider having a skin scrape done to check for mites or prophylactically put them on Nexgard or Bravecto (get demodex mites as well as fleas and ticks) and start them on an antibiotic. They usually need to be on antibiotics for several weeks. I would also change their food bowls to metal if they are plastic. Puppy strangles is an immune condition that requires high doses of steroids. I hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Lilly. She may have an infection under the skin on her chin. If the bumps do not resolve, she will need to see her veterinarian. Niño's lesion, given his age, is most likely from a red button tumor, an arthropod (insect or arachnid) bite/sting, or a dermal foreign body. An exam will help narrow this down further and give a better idea of what to expect. If it is a red button tumor, it will take around 2 weeks and go away on its own, though it will ooze blood periodically in the meantime. Because he has other possibilities, I would recommend an exam by your veterinarian and possibly a fine needle aspirate to try to get a more narrow diagnosis for more pointed treatment. If so, he will likely medication such as antibiotics to help it heal. A topical cleansing solution may be prescribed as well. In the meantime, place an E-collar on him if he is scratching his chin.
