My dog has cancer and is still in pain. Can I increase his meds?

That is a very high dose if given all at once, it is 1.5 times the maximum recommended dose. 800mg spread out through 3 or 4 doses would be good. If your pet is in pain, gabapentin may not be enough. You should discuss a multi-modal pain protocol with your vet, often adding in steroids, NSAIDs, opioids, acupuncture, laser therapy, etc will be better than a single medication.

Depending on the type of cancer, steroid may or may not help, I would discuss with your vet about a steroid vs. an NSAID. The two cannot be given at the same time so you will have to pick one or the other. Gabapentin is good for pain as well, so continue this and ask your vet if you can increase this dose. CBD oil is controversial for sure, but the biggest issue is that the amount of drug in each 'pill'/'capsule' is highly variable, so sometimes there will be no drug and sometimes far too much. If Bella isn't responding well to it, then I would suggest stopping it. Ulcerated skin will be painful, but gauge her quality of life based on if she is eating, walking, wagging her tail, happy otherwise, you know her best. Hello. I am so sorry for your pet's diagnosis. While there is a dose of Tramadol available for dogs, we have now learned that it is not a great drug for pain relief. It is often used here as a multi-modal approach to pain using Tramadol with an NSAID & Gabapentin. With severe pain, a fentanyl patch may be required. You really need to visit with your veterinarian to make sure your pet is as pain free as possible for the rest of his life. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Milo! Gabapentin can cause sedation alone and even more so with tramadol. My starting dose for Milo based on the weight you provided is 400mg every 12 hours. It is absolutely fine for you to go lower and increase the dose slowly based on Milo’s response. I'm so sorry Bubba is doing so poorly! Unfortunately, by law it is illegal for the experts at Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to say it's safe to give an extra dose of medication without seeing the animal in person first. That's because doing so requires a veterinary client patient relationship which cannot be achieved via an internet forum. However, as online advisors we are not allowed to provide information about dosage or recommend any treatment. Please, give your vet a call to discuss using paracetamol for Yoschi. I am convinced that your vet will say OK to that as there are not very many contraindications to use this drug in dogs and it does provide extra pain relief.

But it can be used up to 10mg per pound for dogs with seizures, so this isn't an overdose. It may be he needs the extra pain control. but I would speak to your vet about your concerns. Best of luck.
