My dog has cancer. Is 800mg gabapentin safe for pain relief?

Hello is it safe for a 18kg dog with terminal cancer to take 800mg of gabapentin each day?

That is a very high dose if given all at once, it is 1.5 times the maximum recommended dose. 800mg spread out through 3 or 4 doses would be good. If your pet is in pain, gabapentin may not be enough. You should discuss a multi-modal pain protocol with your vet, often adding in steroids, NSAIDs, opioids, acupuncture, laser therapy, etc will be better than a single medication.

    Unfortunately it's illegal for me to say it's safe for him to have more, and I very strongly urge you to not give Milo additional medication without speaking to his vet. Give his vet a call to see if you can do this. Best of luck.
