My dog has cancer. Are carrots a safe and healthy treat for them?

First off, I'm so sorry Rocky has cancer! How sad for both him and you. I think you should keep doing what you are doing with him. Unfortunately osteosarcoma has a very poor prognosis, and the life span isn't very long even with chemo. At this point in time, keep feeding him what he will eat, and give him lots of love and attention since he is eating, drinking, and acting normally. You can monitor his quality of life for an idea of when it's time to say goodbye. Make a list of five things he loves to do, and when he's no longer doing at least two of them, then his quality of life has decreased to a point where euthanasia should be considered. If you would like to make a homemade diet, however, there are two websites I will give you that provide recipes for healthy and balanced diets that will provide him all the nutrients he needs. You can actually feed the plain dehydrated carrots as treats either in slices or small pieces. They can also be rehydrated with water, boiled and then fed. The healthiest would be just to feed them without any addition of other things.

While there are no anti-cancer foods, medications, or supplements, we recommend keeping pets at an ideal weight and body condition score (BCS), regularly exercising them, and feeding them a consistent diet. Avoiding human foods or very fatty foods can help reduce the risk of developing diseases such as liver disease or pancreatitis. Do not smoke cigarettes around your pet. That being said, cancer in dogs is unpredictable, and can occur even if you do your very best to keep Oscar as healthy as possible. I recommend at least annual check-ups at the veterinarian, and having him evaluated any time you feel that he is not acting himself! Sometimes subtle clinical signs such as hiding, skipping a couple meals, etc, can be signs of underlying disease. I hope this is helpful!

Hello. You can definitely feed the fish parts, but make sure they are thoroughly cooked to prevent the transfer of parasites or bacteria to your dogs. After cooking ( whatever method you prefer ), you can feed all parts if they are rather soft. Any sharp bones, scales or body part to tough for you to chew should either be discarded or ground up. For this reason, I do not recommend using this as we do not know if it could interact negatively with the chemotherapy.
