My dog has bumps after topical flea/heartworm meds. Is it normal?

If Bella has had the red bumps appear all over her body after having this shot, I would be concerned that she is having an allergic reaction to the shot. Allergic reactions can progress to respiratory difficulties, so I would take Bella into a vet now for treatment. She may need steroids to control the reaction.

The bumps could be leftover reaction from her parasites, even a skin infection. The best thing is to get her seen by your vet for an exam and possibly a skin scrape to determine why she has these bumps and how best to treat them.

Poor Cali! I'm sorry to hear she's struggling. If the warts/bumps appeared after she started the medication or got ill, it is possible she is having an allergic reaction to the meds which is causing hives to appear (and can be very bothersome) or it is related to the viral illness. Having your vet take a look and possibly taking a sample of one of the bumps to send off to a lab (if its cause isn't obvious) may help determine what is going on. Your vet can also see if adjusting the medication being given or adding in an antihistamine to stop a reaction would help Cali feel better. Until you can get back into the vet, I suggest putting an Elizabethan (cone) collar on Cali, or an old T-shirt you can put over the affected area. This will help keep her from licking and scratching at it so the affected area doesn't open up and a secondary infection take hold. Keeping the spots as clean and dry as possible may also help.

I can see small bumps right under the hair on Prince. These can be an allergic reaction, or hives. This can be caused by a number of conditions such as fleas, environmental or food allergies, or a reaction to something in her environment. If the medications helped and it came back after 2-3 weeks of stopping the treatment, it is probably an allergy, this means he will probably need to take those medications long term at least until the cause of the allergy is detected. this could be a food allergy, environmental allergies or flea allergy, this is the hard part- to discover what is the cause.

This is probably an allergic reaction due to an insect bite or a plant outside. those reactions tend to resolve within 48 hours without treatment. if the swelling becomes too large or if your dog is lethargic, take her to the vet in order to get an antihistamine injection.
