My dog has a rash that won't heal after grooming. What to do?

It may be allergies or he could have a yeast or bacterial infection. All of these conditions would require different medications to treat. Until you get him into the vet I recommend using an antiseptic medication shampoo for dogs (antimicrobial/antifungal) and keep the area clean and dry. Moisture can often worsen skin conditions, so be sure to dry off under his neck after drinking or going outside if there is an moisture on him. I hope Jordan is better soon. I would wait 24 hours or so after he was groomed to be bathedagain. This is because frequent bathing can dry out the skin and cause more irritation. If his itching continues after one bath he may have an infection and need to be seen by your veterinarian. You could also try and oatmeal-based shampoo as it can be soothing for itchy skin.

It can be a reaction to the sprays or shampoos they use or it could have been there and the clippers irritated it and made it a little worse. It does appear to be a little infection from the skin peeling back around the edges. It is best to get Ollie treated by a vet but nothing that is am emergency

I would be worried that Java had an allergic reaction to the new shampoo. You certainly want to prevent Java from licking or scratching at the wound if it is open because he will make it worse. It is very difficult to diagnose skin problems over the internet. There are so many things that could cause this, including allergies. Some other possibilities: mange mites, skin infection (bacteria or yeast) and autoimmune disorders. If you are talking about the lesion on the elbow, that is a callous and there is not much you can do for those. That happens when they lay down too much on hard surfaces. That will never go away completely but you can apply a salve to keep it soft and uninfected. I would use this medicated shampoo every 3 days until his skin starts to look better. Poor Lucy! This does look very irritated and she may have developed an infection in the skin which would make her even more uncomfortable and itchy. If she didn't do well with the cone, I would try a small shirt or a baby onesie to cover the area so she can't cause further damage to it. I would keep it clean by using a gentle antiseptic such as Hibiclens or dilute betadine (diluted to the color of weak tea). After cleaning, dry the area and then apply a thin film of triple antibiotic ointment. You can do this twice a day. You can also put a little hydrocortisone cream on it to help with the irritation. If you do this for a few days and it is not improving, I would recommend taking Lucy to the vet. Some infections are so deep that just topical treatment won't get rid of them and they need oral medications. I hope this helps and that Lucy gets feeling better soon!
