My dog's bump is leaking pus. Should it still be removed and biopsied?

It may be infected and he might need an antibiotic. The best thing would be to have your vet look at it again and prescribe an antibiotic. It could also just be removed so it doesn't swell and bother him again.

Trust your vet. As long as the mass does not grow or cause a problem, it is better to leave it alone. Should it start to grow or burst or ooze or get infected, it can be surgically drained or removed.

It does happen that cysts can refill, and if that happens it is recommended to have it removed surgically. It could be that it's starting to refill again, and you can ask your vet about having it removed surgically.

I suspect your veterinarian is correct. When masses get to the point that they begin to ooze or break open, they need to be removed, even if they are not cancerous. If you've noticed it drain before, then it is a cyst. These usually occur when a gland is blocked and material builds up in the skin. They can go away and then come back. The only real cure for it is to have it surgically removed, but this is not usually indicated. The warm water compress may help it to rupture and drain again, but no guarantees. Hi. Unfortunately this looks like more then a cyst. This could be a cancerous tumor that has become irritated and ulcerated. Based on this photo , it appears it should be removed and biopsied. If it isn't a cancerous tumor and is largely a cyst of some kind, it would still be best to remove it because of how irritated it is. It will eventually bother Adel a lot as well
