Why is my dog's bum protruding and smelling after anal gland removal?

There are a few things that can cause this such as parasites and in uncommon instances cancer such as lymphoma, among other possibilities. Your veterinarian would be able to examine her more closely and see what seems likely so that therapy can be started. Hopefully it is just a case of parasites as it is most of the time. It is a little difficult to say exactly what is going on with Daisy - she may have a recital prolapse (a condition where some of the tissue in the rectum actually comes out) or chronic irritation if she is scooting on carpeted areas. Scooting may be related to anal gland impactions, infections, or intestinal parasites. I recommend having Daisy seen by a vet as soon as possible because she is likely uncomfortable and the conditions above require treatment. I hope all is well!

It does not appear to be a traditional case of rectal prolapse. It could be an issue with the internal rectal muscles, or could be normal for her. I would have Daisy Mae checked out by a vet. They can do a thorough physical and neurologic exams, and x-rays to see if there is a congenital disorder. This will help you plan for her future and possibly start special exercises to strengthen her hind end.

I would recommend that you have it checked out by a vet. From just your description, what you may be seeing could be a perianal fistula, an abscess, and infected anal gland, a rectal prolapse, a wound caused by scooting or excessive licking, etc. Prevent Roscoe from licking, and if you see him scooting then he may need to wear a doggie diaper to prevent further damage to the area. If you can take a picture and attach it to a new post, we may be able to help you a bit more.

Poor Roscoe! It's not normal to bleed from the anus after bowel movements, and the thing you see sticking out of his anus could be a tumor, impacted and infected anal sac, or his rectum could be prolapsed. Roscoe could see a vet right away for this, and I would bring him into a vet ASAP to be examined so this can be treated.

Your dog may have infected or impacted anal glands. This certainly would explain the discomfort and foul smell. I recommend getting him seen by your vet as soon as possible to have them checked to make sure that is indeed what is going on, expressed and maybe put on antibiotics to help him heal faster.

Unfortunately, I can't tell from the photo what is happening exactly. It sounds like Charlie needs to be examined by the veterinarian and I recommend to have that done today. Anal glands should never protrude. Abscesses and cancers are both possible if the gland looks like it is protruding. Both of these need to be addressed by the veterinarian. You may need to have someone take him to the vet for you or see a local veterinarian.
