My dog has a broken leg. Can I give him over-the-counter pain meds?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 30 lbs

I am currently in Indonesia and my dog has a broken back leg. The vet gave me vitamins and told me to get him a massage. The leg is clearly broken. I was wondering if there are any pain relievers I could buy from the chemist that could help him?

You cannot give your dog human pain killers, the pain killers should be prescribed by your vet as these are dog specific pain killers. if the leg is broken it must at the very least be put in a splint, it will immobilize the leg, it will give it a chance to heal and will reduce the pain significantly.
