My dog is breathing hard and snorting after a seizure. Is this normal?

The more seizures a pet has the most sensitive his nervous system is to them. If Bailey is not having rapid breathing then this could be because his other organs are now becoming affected by the seizures. It is best to take him to your vet for a baseline bloodwork screen to ensure he is not anemic, or have any other internal changes caused by the seizures. If he does then he may need treatment. And if his seizures are currently not being controlled and well managed (less than 1 seizure a month, and occurring for less than 2-3 minutes), then it is best to get him on anti-seizure medication for his safety and well-being.

If this abnormal for Maggie, then I would recommend taking her to the vet ASAP for evaluation. Since Shih Tzus have short noses, they aren't able to move air like a more normal shaped nose. Any decrease in the air flow (such as something stuck in the nose/mouth/throat, inflammation from allergies or infection, mass, etc) can be very severe. The vet will do an exam and may recommend emergency treatment. Or if it doesn't seem life-threatening, they can prescribe something to help with the abnormal breathing.

Please take her to your nearest emergency clinic - cluster seizures can progress to a life threatening status epilepticus if not treated in time and can be very difficult to manage. Have a quick look to see if she may have ingested anything toxic - slug pellets, mouldy food, chocolate etc

Poor Zoey. I'm concerned she could have had something like a seizure. She needs to see a vet immediately. If she seizures again before you can seek vet care: - Don't put your hands near her mouth - Keep some rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle to spray on the pads of the feet for cooling - Monitor her at all times during the seizure to ensure that she cannot hurt herself by crashing into furniture, etc - If the seizure continues for more than 5 minutes, seek emergency care immediately

I am afraid that is not normal. Considering that Snoopy is almost 16 years old my first thought here is that he needs his heart examined by your veterinarian. There is a condition almost every old dog gets, some worse than others, called endocardiosis. THis is a condition where the lips of the heart valves develop little nodules which then keeps the valves from closing properly and then the oxygenated blood is not effectively pumped into the rest of the body. This makes for a weak heart action and causes pulmonary edema, ie fluid in the lungs. The fluid in the lungs make breathing a chore (therefore a high respiration rate), and causes a moist cough when the dog is resting. Your dog also will not have as much energy as usual and slows down significantly. This can be significantly improved by giving diuretics and a heart medication that improved the output of the heart. Of course it is also possible that he has kennel cough or another respiratory condition. So I suggest you make an appointment with your veterinarian for an exam soon.

This sounds pretty scary for you to find! Holli could've had a seizure and is still having neurological issues. Also with her breed it could be something called GDV which is when the stomach dilates and rotates on itself. It could also be an issue with her heart. I recommend Holli go see a veterinarian as soon as possible. This is because if it is something like GDV she need surgery tonight. If it is a seizure and she still having issues then she will need medication to bring her out of it.

I think it is more likely that the high temperature was due to the seizures. Their bodies shake so much that it is like they just ran a marathon. The seizures could certainly be brought on by tick disease, but could also be caused by liver or kidney issues, infection, epilepsy, etc. For these types of cases, I usually hospitalize on IV fluids, run a CBC and blood chemistry and urinalysis and tick tests, and monitor for additional seizure activity throughout the day.
