Chihuahua breathing fast after carpet powder. Heart murmur or allergy?

These signs may be from the prednisolone which is a steroid. It would be better to call your vet to discuss decreasing the dose to reduce the symptoms. Benadryl does not always cause sedation and in some dogs can cause hyperexcitabilty. But, yes you can give all 3 together safely. It's a very unusual combination of medixation that is meant to shoot everywhere in hope that one of the medications works, i personally don't like this aproach and as Ketoconazole (antifungal) and Macrolone (steroids) can potentially hurt the liver, heart and kidneys i would not recommend to continue using both of them at the same time given the fact that Ollie has developed this symptom that ould potentially be a sign of pain or heart condition.

I am sorry to hear Mo isn’t feeling well. I would not give him any more Benadryl as he is getting his max dose. I recommend having X-rays of his chest to determine if the lasix is helping. I would also discuss other medications to use for his heart failure. If those things aren’t helping, I would discuss his quality of life with your vet. Humane euthanasia may be in his best interest if medications aren’t helping him breathe. Good luck and kisses to Mo!

Hi there! You can give him some benadryl (diphenhydramine) at 1 mg per pound. The tablets usually come in 25mg. You can go a tad higher too and it usually won't hurt anything. For example, if the dog is 10 pounds, I'll just have owners give 1/2 of the 25mg tablet which comes out to 12.5mg, or if the dog is 5 pounds, then 1/4 tablet which is 6.25 mg, etc. If your dog is really small, you can pick up the children's benadryl and use that to get a more accurate dose. The benadryl may or may not help, but it can't hurt. I think it's worth a try until you can get him in to see his veterinarian again. I would have him seen though since he has started medications and it still seems to be getting worse. Just be sure to check labels and make sure the only ingredient is diphenhydramine (or diphenhydramine hcl). Some of the benadryl products can have pseudoephedrine in them, and you don't want that. I think it is more likely to be due to something else like a concurrent upper respiratory infection. Allergies are a possibility along with the start of a respiratory infection. You can give Benadryl to dogs and at his weight it would be closer to a whole 25 mg tablet instead of a 1/4. I would say get him checked if the symptoms continue or you notice them progress

The main reason is that dogs with heart murmurs and heart disease can develop congestive heart failure which is a medical emergency that would warrant evaluation as soon as possible for Maya. The veterinarian would be able to check for this possibility and treat accordingly. Usually if congestive heart failure is confirmed, she may need oxygen therapy, diuretic medications and medications to make her heart work better. Good luck! Wishing Maya the best!
