My cocker spaniel has bloody stools but acts normal. What to do?

I'm sorry to hear Cooper is having issues. Bloody stool like you are describing can have a variety of causes, including dietary indiscretion, gastroenteritis, a virus, or an overgrowth of clostridium bacteria in the colon, among others. I would recommend he be evaluated by his regular veterinarian to determine the underlying cause for his diarrhea, have any necessary testing done, and get started on any treatment (antidiarrheal, probiotic) that may be needed to help resolve it. It's not good that Jack is pooping blood! This can be caused by trauma to the GI tract, a foreign body, GI ulcers, eating something toxic, intestinal parasites, or hemorrhagic gastroenteritis. There are some very serious causes behind a dog pooping blood, and when this happens, a immediately trip to the vet is recommended. I would take Jack into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see him ASAP so he can have the cause of his bloody feces diagnosed and treated.

It sounds as Hercules is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti nausea injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

This sounds serious so I recommend a veterinary exam right away. With a small dog they can get dehydrated very quickly and the sooner the vomiting and diarrhea are controlled the better he’ll be. They will probably give fluids in addition to medication for the vomiting and diarrhea, and may do lab tests to find the cause. Hello, and thanks for your question about Cooper. From the photo, it looks like Cooper may have some sort of focal skin infection, or possibly a little growth (cysts are very common in his breed). The vomit photo looks like normal stomach bile with some undigested food. I recommend having Cooper seen by your vet. They can determine the best course of action for that skin (antibiotics, surgical removal, etc) as it is unlikely to resolve with anything over the counter, and can help determine why Cooper has an upset stomach. If he’s otherwise normal you should be fine watching him tonight. He could have a ruptured anal abscess, or be passing a bone. He could also have a mass inside the rectum. Severe bloody diarrhea in a dog that is lethargic and not eating is a medical emergency but this sounds like he’s stable so bring him to your regular veterinarian in the morning so they can diagnose and treat his problem. If the blood and mucous is coming from his anal gland, he may have an infected anal gland. If that is the case, he may need an infusion or oral antibiotics to resolve it.
