The blood from Sherry's anus, is that from his stool or is there a problem with his anal tissue? German Shepherds can suffer from perineal fistulas which are very painful. Blood in the stool is common in dogs suffering from stomach upset due to inflammation within the colon. If you are able, clean his anus and take a picture if you think it looks abnormal and I can try to help you better. I would fast Sherry for 12-24 hours to rest his GI tract. Then start feeding a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice as small frequent meals. Feed this diet until he passes 2 normal stools then transition him back to his normal dog food. If the stool doesn't improve, he won't eat, or starts vomiting he needs an exam by a Vet. I hope this helps and feel free to post a picture of his anus if it looks abnormal. I'm sorry to hear Colonial Rhett is having trouble. He could have an anal gland abscess, colitis, intestinal parasites, or even a tumor causing him to bleed from his rectum. A warm compress and bland diet will not hurt, but I would take him in to your vet to have him examined. If he has an anal gland abscess, he likely needs the area flushed and treated with an antibiotic and pain medication. If he has colitis, he may need a diet change and different antibiotics. Your vet will be able to determine the best course of treatment after checking out the area and possibly doing a fecal test on him.

He should be checked by a vet. This may be a sign of an anal gland infection or cancer if they are all tumors. It may also indidcate an auto immune disease that is causing fistulas. The can determine which is the cause as they have different treatments and different successes. It is best to keep the area clean as best as possible and you can add canned pumpkin to his diet to help going to the bathroom easier

That is likely to be caused by a colitis which is an inflammation of the last part of the intestine. Most of the times these episodes are dietary related but secondary bacterial infections are common and can perpetuate clinical signs. I would recommend a check up to confirm this clinical suspicion and give appropriate treatment. Antibiotics are required together with probiotic and dietary change.. I am very sorry to hear that Shadow is experiencing this issue, I am sure it is unsettling. From what you are describing, a normal bowel movement which fresh blood in it, it sounds as though Shadow has colitis, or inflammation of the last portion of the large intestines. There are several causes of colitis in dogs, ranging from bacterial infections, parasite infestations, IBD, or ingestion of contaminated food. If Shadow is on medication for his epilepsy it may also be a reaction to this medication, and its long term use. Do not stop the medication or alter the dosage, however, do call the prescribing veterinarian to discuss an alternative or adjustment. Since you have only noticed a few episodes I would continue to monitor Shadow at home. Provide a bland diet of boiled boneless chicken breast and white rice and plenty of fresh water. Hello, sorry to hear about Daisy. One thing is that she could have impacted anal glands that could be leading to an abscess. Second is that she could have perineal fistulas, an autoimmune disease that could cause the foul smell. I would recommend having her evaluated so that she can have her anal glands and perineum evaluated to treat any underlying infection. Hope this helps and best of luck.
