My dog has bloody diarrhea, vomiting, and is lethargic. Vet or home?

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Daisy. Contact your local rescue groups, humane societies, low-cost clinics in your area and seek help. Persistent vomiting, bloody diarrhea and lack of appetite are emergent clinic signs due to fluid/electrolyte losses. This leads to dehydration, weakness, and further downward deterioration unless the vomiting stops and the appetite returns. I would advise taking Daisy to your vet as soon as possible to have her evaluated. Many causes are possible including intestinal parasites, dietary indiscretion (eating things dogs aren't supposed to), other dietary problems, gastrointestinal inflammation/infection from various sources, toxin exposure, foreign body ingestion, GI ulceration, side effects from drugs or products used, or even problems outside of the gut including pancreatitis, liver/kidney problems, among many others. Your vet can get a detailed history and perform a thorough exam. Once done, a diagnostic plan and preliminary treatment plan can be started. Most likely a minimum database of fecal/blood/urine tests and some x-rays will be advised. Treatment will be focused on the cause but early treatment could include fluids/electrolytes, anti-nausea/vomiting medicines, acid blockers, etc. Good luck with Daisy.

I am sorry to hear Pepper isn't feeling well. I recommend taking her to the vet to find out what's going on. It could be a GI virus or something like pancreatitis (very common for this breed). They may want to run blood work and X-rays. Either way, they will want to give fluids so she doesn't get dehydrated and start medication to get her feeling better. Good luck and kisses to Pepper!

The problem is that even a small piece of sausage can cause a dog problems because of the fat content. You are seeing that with the vomiting and diarrhea, and now bloody diarrhea. Because her symptoms have progressed to blood in her poop, it's time to see a vet. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. I hope this helps!

I’m so sorry Maddi is sick. You need to get her to a vet ASAP. Call your regular vet; even though they are closed at this hour, they will have a recording of how to reach a vet in case of emergency, which this is. I wish there was more I could offer you to try at home, but delaying getting her seen could make things worse. She needs IV fluids if she had that much bloody diarrhea.

It sounds as Frio is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Sasha. Blood work will likely be recommended to test for conditions such as pancreatitis and hemorrhagic gastroenteritis. Fecal testing will likely be performed as well. Bring a fresh sample if you are able. Treatment will be based on her exam findings and these results. Fluids are common as I suspect she is dehydrated from losing fluid in the stool and vomit. Cernia will probably be continued. She will likely need an antibiotic and possibly a dewormer as well. Hello there. I am sorry the Gustuf is not feeling well. I recommend taking him to the veterinarian as soon as you can. He could have an upset stomach, but he could have something more serious, like pancreatitis or infection. They may need to take some bloodwork or x-rays to determine the cause of his sickness.
