My dog has blood red gums. What's wrong and can I treat it at home?

It is not possible to know the full extent of this just based on pictures though this does look like significant gingivitis and dental disease. Sometimes this is due to pure inflammation secondary to dental disease and sometimes there may be an infection. I recommend you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck!

If his gums are red and swollen than he may have stomatitis and gingivitis. You can start brushing his teeth with a canine tooth paste and see if that helps. You could also try some chews, like Virbac C.E.T. Enzymatic Oral Hygiene Chews. Depending on the condition of his gums and teeth, he may need to have his teeth cleaned and have any diseased ones extracted, as well as need an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory. Have your vet examine his mouth to decide the best way to treat his problem.

Oh my. At this age your pet shouldn't have too much dental disease to cause bleeding gums. This is definitely not normal and I worry that Abdul may either have a bleeding disorder (which can only be diagnosed and treated through your vet) or there may be multiple cuts in the mouth from something sharp your pet recently chewed on. I would highly recommend taking Abdul in to your vet to have them examine the mouth asap since a bleeding disorder is a possibility here. If there are cuts in the mouth that is causing this, then an oral rinse and oral pet friendly anti-inflammatory medicaiton will likely be prescribed. Hello, sorry to hear about Vega. What you are seeing seems to be gingivitis which is associated with periodontal disease. To improve this, you can brush your dog's teeth daily and provide dental care products from your local pet stores (dental treats, dental chews, etc). Eventually however, Vega should have an oral exam by your veterinarian to assess if a dental cleaning needs to be performed as well. Hope this helps and best of luck.

I recommend making an appointment with your vet when they open to take a look at it. Though she isn’t acting painful, it may become painful or infected. There isn’t anything you can do at home and no safe medications you can give for pain. If it is broken, she will likely need to undergo anesthesia to have the tooth removed. The vet that looks at it will be able to help more once a diagnosis is made. Good luck and kisses to Ginger!

Truly your dog needs to have dental cleaning under anesthesia to evaluate these teeth and clean up all the tartar and around the gumline. Unfortunately most of the time loose teeth need to be removed and it also sounds like your dog could have some gingival recession that needs to be evaluated. I would make an appointment with your vet for an oral exam and most likely they will want you to schedule a dental procedure. Brushing teeth at home is great and will slow buildup of tartar, but it isn't going to fix the problems that Tiger has right now.

Loosing baby teeth and having the adult teeth grow in can sometimes cause some pain and discomfort during this process. However, the red and swollen area you described does sound more concerning than just teething pain and may indicate an infection, impacted tooth, or tooth fracture and does warrant a trip to your veterinarian very soon for an oral exam and evaluation. Until you are able to take him in to see his veterinarian, you can try watering down his hard kibble a bit to softer it up and make it easier for him to eat or you can feed him a bit of wet or soft food too.
