My Lab won't eat after blood infection. What bland foods can I offer?

You can try giving Lucky a cup of boiled white meat chicken mixed with half a cup of rice. If you give him eggs, make sure they are fully cooked with no salt, pepper, or seasonings. Just the eggs only, and I would only give him one at a time. He really needs to see a vet as he may not be eating his dog food because he's sick. He could have dental problems, liver disease, kidney failure, an infection, systemic illness, or even cancer causing him to not eat. Please take him into a vet as soon as possible.

You can keep him on a bland diet such as the boiled chicken and white rice, cottage cheese, or just plain white rice. I would wait for the blood test results before trying any other diet and or treatments. His signs could be due to an infection, parasites, kidney and/or liver issues, pancreatitis, and rarely endocrine disease.

You can try baby food, low fat yogurt, boiled chicken and rice, or lean ground beef with no seasonings, or scrambled egg. You can also substitute the water for Gatorade or pedialyte to give her a few calories and electrolytes that way

It is possible she's developed an aversion to her regular food due to the recent sickness you've described. I am unsure if her food made her sick or not but I would make sure there are no recent reports of illness or recalls associated with this food. I recommend feeding a bland, easy to digest food such as homemade, boiled chicken breast mixed with white rice. If she eats this well with no vomiting or diarrhea for a couple days, you can gradually mix in her old food to reintroduce it or try a different type of dog food.

If your dog is recovering from parvo you should not be offering any foods other than his regular diet or bland meals of boiled rice and chicken as the other foods may cause the already irritated intestinal lining to become worse or prolong the irritation. If he is not eating his food there may still be some underlying pain or GI upset. You can offer a bland meal of boiled rice and chicken for a day or so, however if the lack of appetite continues or he does not begin to eat his food it is best to seek veterinary care.

One other thing that you could try to help entice him to eat some of the white rice would be to pour some low sodium chicken broth onto it to help it have more flavor and be similar to the chicken that is eating. In general since he will hopefully be on this bland diet for a short period of time, if he continues to eat only the chicken or protein in the meal, this will not cause any significant problems. Loss of appetite and vomiting can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Layka evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. You can offer a bland diet which may help. This diet could be composed of rice, boiled chicken, ham, turkey, lean hamburgers or low fat cottage cheese.
