My dog ate too much food, is bloated. How to secure dog food?

Hello! This is what we call "food bloat" which happens when dogs manage to eat a massive amount of food! Their stomachs stretch with the huge amount of food, causing the bloated bellies. When people bring these pets to me, we usually recommend putting them on IV fluids until the bloating resolves, and not feeding at all. Their stomachs could potentially rupture, when the kibbles swell, and mix with water. So, at this point, I wouldn't suggest feeding them. Ideally they should be checked by their vet, to see if they are okay recovering at home, or whether they need treatment at the clinic.

If she is resting quietly, not vomiting, and having no breathing issues then she is probably fine for you to just monitor her now. I strongly suggest you don't feed her anything for 24 hours but make sure she has plenty of water available to drink. If she is having any troubles then she needs to go to the emergency vet. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It sounds like Minka is experiencing a simple food bloat (stomach is big and full of food). I recommend NOT feeding her until tomorrow, only small sips of water and walk her every 2-4 hours until bedtime. If she starts non-productively retching, appears restless or painful, pacing, won't lie down then she should go to the closest emergency room. If none of those things happen then she should be fine. If he stomach looks normal size tomorrow morning then resume her normal feeding schedule with her normal food. Good luck!

Withhold food for 12 hours then offer him boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if he is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days. After 2 days, you can put him back gradually on his normal food. If he seems very lethargic or vomiting, take him to the vet to get treatment right away as he might develop GDV (gastric dilatation).

I would offer her the normal amount of food in tiny amounts over the next day or two. As in divide her daily ration into six feedings. Allow her plenty of water, and you can even add water to the food. If it is food bloat, she should feel better tomorrow. If she isn’t interested in food tonight or she tries retching or vomiting, she needs to see a vet ASAP.

Small breed dogs don't get bloat. Bloat is a large breed deep chested dog disease, so you have nothing to worry about there. Also symptoms of bloat include vomiting (food and water), severe pain and agony in a lateral position. Niko likely has some indigestion and has from eating too much food in such a short amount time. Allow his stomach to settle by skipping his next meal and then you can feed him an easily digestible meal such as plain boiled chicken and rice or cottage cheese for a few days until he gets back to his normal self. There is not much that can be done back home a part from monitor him, let him move wherever he wants to find the best and most comfortable position. Do not give him any more food and let him drink but not excessively.
