My Shih Tzu has a blister on her inner leg. Is it a hot spot?

Hi, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! What you are describing on Molly could be anything from ringworm to a red button tumor. From what you are describing, this lesion sounds raised, so I'm more inclined to think something like the red button tumor, a papilloma, or an insect/spider bite/sting. Generally, those types of things are self-limiting, but I would recommend having it examined by a veterinarian to be sure, especially if it gets bigger and/or starts bothering Molly. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Ninja! I can not see the skin well in the pictures due to all the hair. I am not seeing an open wound but more of a sore. If the area is flat, red, moist and weeping it is likely a hot spot. Hot spots are superficial skin infections that occur secondary to allergies, scratching and excessively moist fur (like after a bath or swimming). They crop up very quickly and get larger just as quick. I treat hot spots by shaving all the fur away, having owners use an E-collar or T-shirt to prevent further scratching and I prescribe a course of oral antibiotics and tapering course of steroids along with a topical spray. Most hot spots with this treatment heal with in 5 days. I would make an appointment with your Vet. I wish you the best!

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. From the picture you have provided it appears as if Costa has developed a hot spot. I would recommend cleaning this with a Betadine and saline solution (both mixed together to a light brown solution). I would recommend using malacetic conditioning spray and apply to the area until resolved. If the area does not heal or worsens, I would recommend having a veterinarian take a look at this for further testing and treatment recommendations. I hope this helps! This could have happened from moisture becoming trapped on the fur, allergies, a wound, etc. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Girly so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. This needs to have the hair completely clipped from the area, antiseptically cleaned and an oral antibiotic most likely. I hope this helps! Hello, thank you for using PetCoach. I actually do think that it looks like a hot spot but honestly, I have never seen one in that location. A hot spot is really just a skin infection so it is certainly possible especially if he was scraped in that general location. I would not be overly concerned about it as it looks superficial. Licking can cause more infection and will delay healing. It looks like Lila may have what is called a hotspot (localized area of infection). When they lick the area they can make it extremely worse very fast. I recommend taking Lila to a veterinarian to get the area clipped up, cleaned up and have antibiotics +/- topical medication. I recommend in the mean time going to a pet store and getting an Elizabethan collar for her so she stops bothering the area. This does not look like mange. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Right now what I would do is monitor her to check for progression of this lesion. If it becomes scaly or infected, have her evaluated by a veterinarian. Otherwise, if it is just from the leash, she is likely going to improve on her own. If she taken to the veterinarian and a hot spot is confirmed, antibiotics and steroids will be recommended. Best of luck!
