My dog bled after tick removal. What's the best tick prevention?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 85 lbs

What happens when you pull a tick from your pet and there is blood. I treat my dogs with k9 advantex . And ticks are still a problem. I am a trucker and they travel with me, I need something that works. Any suggestions. Thanks

When a tick bites it injects an anticoagulant which hinders clotting of the blood. This serves to avoid that the ticks mouth instruments stick together and it facilitates sucking the blood.
This is not a problem and bleeding should stop relatively quickly.
You may want to try Bravecto/Simparica/Nexguard chews or a Seresto collar for dogs (this one is good for up to 8 months!).
