How to soothe and heal my dog's bleeding skin wound and infection?

This presentation could be due to a trauma (bite wound) and/ or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be continued at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths (twice daily). I would recommend to shave fur around the wound (clippers are best as if you do it with scissors you may injury him) to be able to clean the area best as possible. After cleaning you can dry it up and apply any cream containing zinc oxide (like sudocream). Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking. Sorry to see that sugar has a lesion on her skin. My recommendations for that would be to get a hair clipper and remove all the hair on and around the affected area. Once this is done I would pain either a diluted Betadine or chlorhexidine solution and scrub the area until it is pretty clean. After having done this I would have obtain a triple antibiotic ointment or something with an antibiotic and steroid in it and apply it generously to the area one to two times a day. In addition I would obtain an Elizabethan collar to prevent sugar from performing any sort of self-mutilation which will ultimately delay the healing process. In some cases these lesions can require systemic antibiotics in which case it will not clear up and you will have to take sugar to the veterinarian to be seen. Hope this helps take care.

Moonlight is such a handsome dog!! From your pictures I suspect that Moonlight has what is known as a hotspot, or moist dermatitis. You need to take him to your regular vet to have the area looked at to be sure. Your vet will likely want to shave the fur from the area and clean it thoroughly. Some hotspots respond well to topical treatment, others require systemic medications such as antibiotics and steroids. These areas of dermatitis/infection can get larger very very quickly, and can be very irritating and painful. They often are associated with some type of allergy, so your vet may need to discuss allergy testing/treatment/food trials with you as well. I am sorry to hear about your pup! Ideally we would use a chlorhexidine soap while being careful not to get it in the eye. You can purchase this at most drug stores under the trade name Hibiclens or the store may have a generic version. After cleaning you can apply a topical antibiotic ointment and monitor the area for increased bleeding, swelling, or yellow/green discharge which can be a sign of infection and veterinary care will be needed. If you discover the wound gets larger/appears to open up after cleaning then sutures (stitches) may be needed by the vet.

The area doesn't look too red or swollen. Infection would probably manifest as drainage, swelling, and/or more redness. Try working with her with some kind of treat she loves. Start by petting her and letting her relax, give treats occasionally as long as she remains calm. If she becomes tense, back off until she calms again. Don't start by trying to medicate her, the wound doesn't look like it needs much care to heal right now. As she is calm, try to get her into position to medicate the area, have the medicine nearby so she can see it, but don't use it if she becomes tense. Offer tiny bits of treat as long as she stays quiet. Only move forward as long as she remains calm. Keep these training sessions short, only five or ten minutes at most, and always end on a positive note, even if all she does is 'sit' to get her treat. This will help her looks forward to her training. Also, if she likes to go for walks, play fetch, go for runs, whatever physical activity she enjoys, do that with her. A tired dog is a happy dog and physical activity can do wonders for fear and anxiety in dogs.

This sounds like a skin infection and may be secondary to allergies. I would try some beandryl twice a day and a medicated shampoo like miconahex-triz. I would clean it with either Betadine or Chlorhexidine solution (diluted 1:10 with water). Try to flush the solution down into the hole. I would do that twice daily, dry it thoroughly after cleaning and then you can apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment like Neosporin.
