My dog is bleeding from her anus and won't eat. Is it an emergency?

I am so sorry that your pet is not only ill but that you were brushed off by the emergency person when seeking help. That is quite unheard of also disturbing that someone would laugh at your pets misfortune. I am not sure your pets breed or age, but you should call another emergency vet in the area and get him seen right away. In fact if they are open, I would not wait and just take him in to be seen. He either has a really bad case of stress related hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, a coagulation disorder, pancreatitis, or a toxin exposure as the cause of his symptoms. It sounds as Dahlia is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an antibiotic course and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

At minimum, they can offer supportive treatments such as fluid therapy to combat dehydration from the diarrhea, stomach protectants and pain medications. The sooner that she can see the vet, the better. In the meantime, I would offer her small, frequent meals of a bland diet such as boiled chicken and plain white rice, which should be easy to digest. Occasionally this is self limiting and can be resolved with a bland diet for 3-5 days (plain white rice, skinless and boneless boiled chicken). However often, pets require medications and supportive care for the associated dehydration, vomiting, and diarrhea (with or without blood) that comes with this disease. If Pookie is not improving within a day, or if his diarrhea is worsening despite the bland diet, if he develops innapetence or vomiting, then he should be evaluated by his veterinarian promptly. I'm sorry to hear Colonial Rhett is having trouble. He could have an anal gland abscess, colitis, intestinal parasites, or even a tumor causing him to bleed from his rectum. A warm compress and bland diet will not hurt, but I would take him in to your vet to have him examined. If he has an anal gland abscess, he likely needs the area flushed and treated with an antibiotic and pain medication. If he has colitis, he may need a diet change and different antibiotics. Your vet will be able to determine the best course of treatment after checking out the area and possibly doing a fecal test on him.

Poor Skittles! It sounds like she's quite sick. Bloody diarrhea and not eating are always symptoms that warrant a vet visit, so I would recommend taking her in for an exam as soon as possible. She may have a systemic illness like liver or kidney disease, a serious GI issue like pancreatitis or HGE (hemorrhagic gastroenteritis), or may have ingested something toxic. Your veterinarian can do blood work or other testing if needed to help diagnose the problem and get her started on appropriate treatment.

Since this has been going on for 2-3 days now and she is also vomiting and not wanting to eat much, I would recommend taking her to the ER today to be seen, rather than waiting until next week. The ER doctor can do some diagnostic testing to help figure out what's going on (possibly blood work, x-rays, and/or a fecal exam for parasites) and get her started on appropriate treatment depending on what is found. At the very least, it sounds like she needs to be started on some supportive care and symptomatic treatment (for nausea, diarrhea, etc.) since dogs can become dangerously sick if they have symptoms like this for multiple days that are not resolving on their own.
