My dog has a bladder tumor and mucus in stool. Is it cancer related?

The blood could be coming from the tumor itself, or sometimes dogs with tumors are more likely to develop urinary tract infections. If she is also straining to urinate it may be that her quality of life is beginning to be affected. Before you make any decisions you should recheck with your vet. They could check her urine for bacteria and can also discuss what signs to look for that might indicate it is time to consider euthanasia.

It could be that Chika has urinary stones causing the mass in her bladder and the red color of her urine. Another possibility could be a canine polypoid eosinophilic cystitis, also known as benign inflammatory fibrous polyp. In a year and half old dog, bladder cancer would be rare, so I wouldn't have that at the top of my differential list. I know it's scary, but I try not to get too worried just yet until you have the mass diagnosed. I hope this helps!

Cytology is rarely diagnostic for this disease so I would still be suspicious that a malignant tumor such as TCC is much more likely. This is because of what you described but also due to the fact that this is way more common than benign tumors of the bladder. There is a test that your veterinarian could consider which is easy to perform and is non-invasive. This is also very sensitive and specific meaning that typically a negative or a positive result can be trusted. This is called the BRAF test which is performed with a urine sample. Poor Ruby! The weird stool could be due to a numerous things including the tumor but also parasites, stress, eating something she shouldn't and much more. I would have your vet take a look at her and the tumor. The vet will be able to do a fecal to see if she has any parasites or bacterial imbalance. They will also be able to look at the tumor to ensure it isn't cancerous and to make sure it doesn't need to be surgically removed before it gets any worse. You could try to feel some plain boneless, skinless chicken and white rice to see if this helps with her stool. Keep a close eye on her. I hope this helps and she starts to feel better really soon!

Hi there. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. So sorry to hear that Sweet Pea is having this issue. It is unlikely that the nose cancer spread to the bladder. The bladder cancer is a type of cancer called transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) and that is not found in the skin. It is rare for bladder cancer to be anything but TCC. The skin tumor on her nose could be any number of types of cancer but it will not be TCC. My suspicion is that she is just unfortunate to have two separate types of cancer. Poor girl. So sorry to hear she has cancer. Frequent urination, blood in the urine, and small amounts can be a sign of a urinary tract infection, bladder or kidney stones, bladder inflammation, or bladder cancers. Without some testing and an exam, we can't say for sure which of those it is. We will hope for something simple. She will need an exam, a urine test, and some xrays of that bladder. Give your veterinarian a call in the morning for an appointment.

I don't think the color of the tumor and the strong smelling urine are connected. The tumor is likely progressing which is why it is changing color. The urine may be more pungent due to some dehydration. Be sure he is drinking plenty of water. Are you giving him any medications at all? If so, the urine odor can be due to medication administration. If you would like to post with more information and/or some photos of the tumor we may be able to help better. Hope this helps.
