My German Shepherd puppy has a black tail bump. Why isn't it growing?

It appears to be a callus or a scab. I would keep an eye on this area for the next 7 days and if it changes (gets bigger, becomes swollen, is painful, discharge is evident) then I would recommend having a veterinarian examine this so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. You can always proceed with the DNA test to check the breed which is available online. I would encourage you to have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment to check for possible reasons of his perceived lack of growth. We can try to give you a more detailed answer. The bump could be her bone structure, a cyst, an infection under the skin such as an abscess or a form of skin cancer. Hello. From the photo that you provided, this looks like a growth that may be benign or malignant. It may also be a cyst. Your veterinarian can try to do a fine needle aspirate on the lump in order to determine if it is urgent to surgically remove it. As to whether the hot spot caused it…. that is not likely. Your pet may be licking or chewing at it and it may have had some part in causing the hotspot, but I cannot say for sure. I've seen this type of bump or sore after a tick or spider bite. It often lasts a few weeks and then resolves. If it's a mass and it enlarges please take him in to have it examined and removed if needed. As long as you are keeping an eye on it and it's not bothering your dog you can wait a week or two before getting it examined, as it may go away by then. Unfortunately the color on the picture is quite distorted. However if appears to be a possible abscess (infected pocket caused by trauma to the skin) or a large inflammatory response to a bug bite (spider perhaps). It is large however and looks irritated so I would recommend having your vet examine this area closely. Jasmine will likely need some medicaitons to get this to resolve well. Poor girl.
