My senior diabetic dog has a black, swollen nail. Is it infected?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

What can I do about a nail infection? My dogs nailbed is swollen and open and the nail is black normally white. Doesn’t seem to be bothering him. He is also diabetic and 11 years old

The nail needs to be checked, it could be a bacterial infection or a fungal infection, these are treated differently (antibiotics or antifungal), i would recommend taking Jester to the vet in order to get it checked and treated.
