Why is my dog's swollen toe not improving after vet treatment?

Ouch. That does look swollen. Dogs can get bacterial or yeast infections around their nail beds. If that is what is going on, the Epson Salt soaks will likely slowly make the swelling go down over a couple of days. However, if Tom is licking the nail, it will likely stay moist and have a harder time resolving. Unfortunately, there are other conditions that can occur around nail beds like tumors and auto-immune problems, so if it is not getting better, is getting worse or seems painful I would take him to your vet. i hope that answers your question. The wound and swelling could be caused by a foreign body, like a splinter or a piece of grass seed that penetrated under the skin. If there is no improvement to antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications, Hjalmar should have the swelling lanced and flushed under sedation.

The nail seems attached but the nail bed is infected. The pink tissue seems inflamed but I would not jump to surgery yet. You can keep the area clean with soap and water and apply neosporin. the most important part is to stop him from licking it by getting an e collar or putting a baby sock over it. He does need to see a vet for antibiotics to see if it can heal as an open wound with that. IF that is not successful then they will go towards the surgery route

Poor guy. The paw is likely having an severe inflammatory response from the pine needle, and potentially an abscess has formed here. If this is an abscess (bacterial infected pocket), then it needs to be drained by your vet and then Diesel needs to be placed on oral antibiotics, and pet friendly anti-inflammatory medication to get this to heal. Applying topical Neosporin and hydrogen peroxide will not likely cause this to resolve unforutnately. In fact, hydrogen peroxide shouldn't be used, because in pets it can cause the normal skin cells to die off. I would recommend taking him in by tomorrow at the latest to get this treated appropriately. I hope that Diesel is able to make a full and speedy recovery. Take care.

Poor Spike Lee (love his name!). No, unfortunately you can't treat this yourself, an infection requires oral antibiotics to treat and only a vet can prescribe them for him. I would take him into the vet tomorrow to have his nail treated. Tonight, you can try soaking his foot in an Epsom salt bath to give him some temporary relief. I hope this helps!

This could be due to a bacterial, fungal infection or possibly the presence of a foreign body. Ideally that small red lump in between fingers should be disinfected and lanced. If persistent infection is present despite antibiotics, a bacterial swab should be taken for culture and sensitivity testing. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking (if any). Soak it in soap and warm water to keep it clean. Once it is dry you can place medicated powder in between the toes to help minimize moisture to dry it out. You can place neosporin around the nail bed also. If this does not help then you will need to see a vet
