My dog has black skin rashes. Why won't they heal with the cream?

It does look like a skin infection but the origin (bacterial, fungal, yeast) I don't know just by looking at it. If it is bacterial, sometimes oral antibiotics are needed if topical therapy is not working. I don't know what cream you are using as I am not aware of a chlorhexidine cream, or how long you have been using it, so it's hard for me to comment much more on what you are already doing. I personally like these chlorhexidine wipes because they also contain an anti-fungal/anti-yeast component (climabazole) and a component to help repair the skin (phytosphingosine) so it is gentle. So, if she is licking, you will need to get an E-collar (cone) for her to wear until this is healed. So, if you want to try the medicated pads, I would do that. If there is still not resolution after a few weeks then she should go back to the vet. Skin maladies typically take quite a long time to respond completely to treatment so as long as it's not bothering her too much just continue on for a few more weeks. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is possibly due to allergies. A secondary infection is likely and also needs to be addressed. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively!

If current therapy has not helped, consider a recheck with your veterinarian. A biopsy of the area or consult with a veterinary dermatologist may be recommended.

It's hard to say what it could be. I would recommend having Merlot examined by the vet. It could just be a healing wound, or it could be a bacterial or fungal infection, mites, other parasites, etc. The vet may take a sample for evaluation under the microscope to determine the cause and recommend appropriate treatment.

These rashes and sores can be caused by various reasons such as fleas, ringworm, mites ,fungal infection, bacterial infection and allergies. the first 4 needs to be ruled out before we start treating for allergies. in order to do that first de-flea Canelo with a high quality flea treatment such as advantage spot on, if it doesn't help - take him to the vet in order to check for/treat the other possibilities. If everything is ruled out, then an allergy treatment can be started. Usually an hypoallergenic food is a good way to start together with anti histamines. if it doesn't help - the best solution is a medication called Apoquel which treats allergies with great success and without side effects.

It’s difficult to say what it is from just the picture. Since you aren’t able to take him to the vet, you could try to rotate lamisil cream and neosporin. Put each on twice a day but separate by at least an hour. Also, don’t let him lick that area. You can put a cone collar collar on him to help prevent this. You can also start him on some Benadryl. Hello. This is very typical of an allergic dermatitis reaction. Your treatment is appropriate so just continue until the skin is fully healed. Then, at the first sign of it coming back, start the cream again. You should also contact your veterinarian to see if the newer anti-allergy medications like Apoquel or Cytopoint would be appropriate to prevent these flare ups from happening.
