Dog has a black raised spot on chest. Is it a mole, scab, or tumor?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd | Female | spayed | 3 years and 5 months old | 60 lbs

My dog has what looks to be a black raised mole on the middle of her chest. I separated the hair and it feels like a scab. What could it be?

This could be from an injury that Bella suffered leading to a scab, but if it's raised up, it could be a cyst, benign tumor, or a malignant tumor (less likely in a younger dog). I would keep an eye on this scab, and if it doesn't go away in the next couple of days or gets bigger, I would have her seen by a vet.
