My dog's poop is black after eating blueberries. Is it serious?

More than likely it is from the change in food but black, tarry stool can be a sign of gastrointestinal bleeding. You could take a sample to your vet, when you notice that it is black, and have it tested for blood. That way you will know if it is anything to worry about or just normal color change.

A change in food or treats could alter the color of the feces. It could also look abnormal if Riley is getting into something he shouldn't, like people food. Stool that is darker on the outside could also indicate that the feces is sitting in the colon for longer than normal. This could be due to dehydration or constipation. To avoid this you can add a fiber supplement (like Metamucil) to his food and/or increase water intake and/or add wet food to the dry food. As long as Riley is acting normally, defecating normally and still eating well and is active, I would not worry too much about it. If the poop continues to look abnormal I would recommend taking in a sample to your vet to be checked. I hope this helps. Best of luck. Without seeing the stools myself it is hard for me to say. What you may consider black I may consider normal dark brown color. It may just be their GI tract getting used to processing the new food. If they are acting normally I would not be overly concerned. Omegas are regularly recommended and are usually pretty benign to give however, they can interfere with clotting if not given the correct dose. Are you giving them a product made for dogs? If not, I suggest you do that. Humans and dogs need different ratios of the Omega 3 to Omega 6. Hope this helps. The change is stool color is probably from the medication or new supplement. It doesn’t look like it is from blood from the photo. As long as he’s feeling fine finish the antibiotics and check the stool after they are done. It should go back to his normal stool color. Hello from far away! I am sorry to hear Brunp is having some issues. Black stool is a sign of upper gastrointestinal bleeding. A gastric ulcer could be at play here and may explain his inappetence as well but you will wan to take him back into your veterinarian to confirm and rule out other causes as well as Rx the appropriate medication. I would try and feed him a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice. Plain unflavored yogurt can also help soothe the stomach. Please take Brunp in to see his veterinarian as soon as possible. Yes liver can cause very dark stools. But if this continues once she is on her regular cat food I would be worried something else could be going on. Black tarry stools can be caused by ulcers in the stomach. If Stella continues to have dark stool I would have her evaluated by her veterinarian.

Black stool typically indicates the presence of digested blood, most commonly from parasites or ulceration of the stomach or intestines. If Selfie's diet contains a lot of bloody meat, this could explain the black stool. Otherwise, this is not a normal finding and should be addressed by a vet fairly urgently. Selfie may need deworming and antacid medications to protect her stomach. If she has an ulcer, these can progress and become quite severe if left untreated. I hope that all goes well!
