What are these black, pimple-like spots on my dog's tail skin?

It appears that Harley has many blackheads on the skin of this area. What needs to be done with these cases is manual expressing of the skin to help remove the blackheads and also use a shampoo that contains benzoyl peroxide such as Dermabenz, which can be purchased online. I would do this for several weeks and see if you can get the condition under control. If not, then I would have Harley examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps! Looking at the photo I see 4-5 distinct black dots that look to be the pore opening of his teats (they match on both sides so that's how you know). I also see darker skin discoloration around his prepuce. Sometimes this darker discoloration is natural and happens as they age. Sometimes it can indicate a thyroid disorder. Sometimes it indicates allergies. If Yogi doesn't seems bothered by it, it's not itching and he's not excessively licking it, it's probably normal. If it's looking red at all or he's licking at it, then I start to suspect one of the other two causes. Sometimes improving over all skin health can help. For that I recommend a fatty acid like Welactin and a potentially a diet change to Royal Canin or Nutro (both great diets for skin). It will take about 6 weeks to be effective. Washing him in an oatmeal type doggie shampoo and conditioner can also help. If that's not helping, make an appointment for an examine. Sometimes they need stronger medication or they need a blood test for the thyroid. I hope this helps and please feel free to reach out with any additional questions.

Dogs can get blocked pores and blackheads, or what we medically call comedones These typically can be treated with a benzoyl peroxide based shampoo (i.e. Duoxo shampoos). In most situations these are benign, but it is always a good idea to have your vet do a general health exam on your pet to ensure no other underlying disease processes are occurring as well. Pets with hypothyroidism can be prone to this condition. Your vet can also provide an appropriate shampoo to help keep pores healthy. Hello I wouldn't recommend popping them as that could cause bacteria from the top of his skin to get into the deeper layers and cause further problems. Sometimes a medicated pet shampoo helps clear up this type of lesion. However if more of these spots appear Hero should see his veterinarian as it could indicate a widespread skin infection.

Some older pets with endocrine disease develop comedones which are keratin deposit in open pores (i.e. Blackhead). However, the skin around a comedone is not swollen. You may have caused inflammation by attempting to remove it yourself or it could be infected. The best thing to do is leave it alone and follow up with your veterinarian if the selling fails to resolve.

It sounds like your dog has a skin infection. Usually infections are characterized by small red pustules full of pus. But sometimes they can look like whiteheads or blackheads, also known as comedones. Your dog will likely need a medicated shampoo to help flush out his hair follicles that have become clogged and often times need antibiotics to help the infection cleared up. There is a chance as well that this may not be an infection but maybe small cysts that are present. If this is the case usually no treatment is needed. Yes, I would recommend having your vet examine Isabelle since the areas are not going away and potentially getting worse.
