My puppy's acne-like spots are getting worse. Should I see a vet?

Be sure that you are washing her food bowl after each feeding and ceramic or stainless steel bowl are preferred for food and water, as plastic can hold bacteria. Hello. This may be just a simple skin infection caused by a staph infection. This is very common in puppies. Sometimes bathing twice weekly in an antibacterial shampoo that contains benzoyl peroxide or chlorhexidine can be just as effective as oral antibiotics. It looks like Selene may have a skin infection. I would recommend bringing her to the veterinarian so they can dispense antibiotics to help it resolve. Due to the location of it, I would also recommend having them test her urine to make sure she does not have a urinary tract infection. Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! From what I can tell via your photo, this looks a lot like puppy pyoderma-a very common condition among young dogs. Essentially, these are "pimples" for puppies and usually caused by staph bacteria. I will usually try to rule out any underlying flea problem resulting in pustules, etc when I see these patients. If I see nothing else of concern I will usually prescribe antibiotics for 10-14 days at which point the breakout has usually cleared up. I would recommend seeing your vet to do these things as well-Lala will be much more comfortable without pustules. I hope this helps!

Hello, thank you for using PetCoach. These bump are pustules, so yes, sort of like acne but it is really inflammation of the hair follicles. It can be the beginning of puppy strangles so still continue to look out for that. You have two options: 1. Do nothing and just monitor them and let their immune systems take care of it as long as they are otherwise fine. OR 2. You can use these medicated pads once daily on the affected areas until the issue is resolved.
