Why does my dog have black circular lumps on her back legs?

Obviously I can't definitively determine the cause of Fabulous's skin lesions without examining him and taking a biopsy sample. However, looking at the pictures, some of the most likely causes of this type of lesion include papillomas, over production of keratin, or benign skin tags. It would be best to have this lesion examined by your vet. Some lesions that stick out can get caught on objects, causing the area to bleed and potentially become infected. Those spots on Nala could be several things including fleas, allergies, skin mites, bacterial infection, ringworm (which humans can get) or endocrine disease. There are a couple things you can do at home and they can help but they may not address the underlying cause. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing her diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. You can wash the lesions once a day (not her whole body, just the lesions). Also protect the area from trauma by having your pup wear an elizabethan collar at all times. If the lesions do not start improving within a week or if they are getting worse, have her examined by the veterinarian. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Poor Lazarus! This could be a bacterial or fungal skin infection, an allergy-related skin lesion, or a localized inflammatory reaction due to an insect bite or something similar. It's even possible that it could be a skin growth or tumor of some kind, especially if it feels raised vs. flat when you touch it. Treatment will depend on what the underlying problem is, so it's important to get a diagnosis first. I would recommend taking Lazarus to the vet for an exam. He/she can do some simple skin tests if needed. to help diagnose the problem and get him started on appropriate medication to treat it.

I would be most concerned for a lick granuloma although it is difficult to tell from pictures. These can be related to arthritic pain, boredom, compulsive disorders and allergies, among other causes. The treatment depends somewhat on what the vet suspects the cause is- but may include diet changes, pain medicine, antibiotics if it appears infected and/or behavioral modification. If your vet does not think it looks like a granuloma in person they may recommend a biopsy! I hope this helps and Mercedes is back to normal soon!

There is no way of knowing for sure without an examination though this represents a reason to seek veterinary care. This is usually determined with an examination and a fine needle aspirate (FNA) or a biopsy. Treatment depends on the findings up to that point.
