My dog bit a nasal decongestant spray. Is he okay if no symptoms?

As long as he is behaving normally, there is likely no cause for concern. The propellant in the can can cause local irritation such as redness or may cause excessive drooling. You can monitor him for those signs for the next 24 hours to make sure he is in the clear.

Hello, and thank you for your question. It is difficult to tell whether Bentley ingested a toxic amount of the deodorant since it was a spray. Aerosols can contain hydrocarbons which are volatile compounds that can cause stomach upset. If you think she ingested a large amount of the spray, I would take her to the vet now just in case. Otherwise, I would monitor her for any vomiting or diarrhea. If this happens, I would contact your vet at that point. If mild diarrhea is seen, you can try fasting her for about 12 hours, then start offering small frequent meals of a bland diet such as boiled chicken and rice. If it was just one puff, he should be fine. If it was a rescue inhaler (albuterol) he may be a little jittery and or have a high heart rate for a short bit, but he should be fine. I would expect that if anything bad was to happen to Junior, you would have seen signs by now. Dogs chewing on inhalers and getting exposed to the medication in them often have acute reactions meaning that you see signs of a problem pretty quickly. I'd still keep an eye on him for now, and if you are very worried, have him seen by a vet just to be safe. Best of luck.

If toy do not believe there was anything in the box then I would monitor Casper for now. If you notice any symptoms such as lethargy, inappetance, vomiting or diarrhea, I would get him in to be examined by a veterinarian for further testing. This is at the upper limit of a safe dosage for dogs, so he should probably be OK. I wouldn't recommend attempting to induce vomiting for Kado anymore, because it likely won't be effective and may cause more harm than good at this time. I expect Kado will be rather hyperactive tonight, but if he starts to appear disoriented, vomits, or starts having seizures, then he should go to the emergency vet. It's not likely that you'll have to do this, but it's good to just check on her periodically throughout the night. If she's fine by the morning, then there will be no further concerns about toxicity. I would be concerned that she jumped because she fractured a tooth or injured herself on the can. She may have just been startled. A small amount of air freshener is likely to be bitter and may cause besides and vomiting. I recommend keeping a close eye on Marley. She should be seen by a vet if you think she is painful in the mouth (hypersalivating, guarding, etc) or is vomiting or lethargic. I hope this helps and that all is well with Marley!
