My dog has an allergic reaction. Can I give Benadryl after aspirin?

Hello, benadryl will definitely treat an allergic reaction, however, if your dog is also bruising and bleeding then that is not a characteristic of an allergic reaction that could be treated with just benadryl. Hello and thank you for your post! Looking at your photos, the first picture is the one I am concerned about the most. It is always difficult to tell from the pictures 100% what is going on but Krunch's face and muzzle sure look swollen! I would seek veterinary care as so o as possible in case he is having a severe allergic reaction. Fire ants can certainly trigger an allergic reaction. I would go ahead and give him 1/4 tablet of Benadyl 25mg and get him to your vet for further treatmemt. If left untreated, allergic reactions can turn into anaphylaxis and can be fatal. I hope Krunch gets better!

Check for any injuries or sting marks. If there are puncture wounds that ooze blood this may be a snake bite and you need to take Rikke to a vet right away. If it is an allergic reaction and not a swollen face due to snake bite, or a tooth root abscess or injury in the mouth or obstructed salivary duct or swollen salivary gland, then you can try Benadryl. I believe it might actually be part of the original allergic reaction but as there is suspicion he had a reaction to the Benadryl i wouldn't recommend giving it again. instead i would recommend to monitor him, give it 48 hours, if it is not resolved bring him back to the vet for a steroid shot.

He should be receiving just Benadryl which contains only diphenhydramine. Some dogs will require ongoing doses of steroids to keep the swelling down in the days following the reaction. This amount of Benedryl is safe for Britta. However if she does not respond to it within 1-2 hours or her symptoms worsen I would recommend taking her in to the vet. Anaphylaxis can be an emergency situation and life threatening.
