My dog's belly is twitching, but she seems okay. Should I worry?

It can be normal to twitch in their sleep. Puppies and dogs dream, and she may be reacting to the dreams. My own dog sometimes barks in her sleep. As for the pot belly, she may have intestinal worms which is common in puppies. That would cause a pot belly. Have her seen by the vet to get a deworming treatment. Her stool sounds ok. It's hard to say what could be causing this without examining Maxx. It could be caused by pain, internal medical disease (such as liver disease), electrolyte abnormalities, neuromuscular disorder, etc. If it doesn't appear to be getting worse and Maxx is otherwise normal, then it can probably wait to see the vet. If it does get worse, bothers Maxx, or if additional symptoms develop, he should see a vet during your travels.

I can certainly understand being concerned about Niko! If he did have bloat, you would see unproductive vomiting, abdominal pain, an enlarged belly, restless, and pacing. It could be that he is feeling unwell from stomach upset causing the burping and strange behavior. The shaking could be caused by pain. I would monitor Niko for now. If he does start to show signs of bloat, or starts vomiting and becomes very lethargic, I would have him seen by an emergency vet. Otherwise, have him seen by a vet in the morning should these same symptoms continue.

I'm sorry to hear platanito isn't feeling himself. He may be having episodes of stomach or intestinal pain that could cause him to tense his belly the way you are describing. If this is the case it can be caused by eating things that inflame the stomach or pancreas and you can offer him a very bland diet (boiled chicken breast and white rice OR chicken baby food for example) until your appointment with the vet. Another reason they can appear to tense their belly, lay down and be hesitant to move is back pain. If this is the case it's important to keep him very quiet and prevent jumping until his vet evaluates him. I hope he is feeling better very soon.

Something could be painful there or on her back causing Holly to yelp. Since she is otherwise acting normally, keep an eye on her for now and if this behavior continues, have her seen by a vet. Best of luck.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Hiccups are spasms of the diaphragm and can occur from excitement, eating or drinking too fast (swallows air), stress or fatigue. If Axie is eating and drinking and NOT retching or vomiting I would think he should be fine. Also be sure he can rest comfortably and his belly isn't swollen. If he won't eat or is vomiting or retching you should contact the owners and take him to a Vet. If all else is fine maybe check in on him an lunch. Good luck!

No running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to potty on a leash, and bring her right back in when she's done. Have her seen by a vet in the morning if she is still acting this way.
