Can I bathe my dog with flea & tick shampoo and a Seresto collar?

Seresto collars are water-resitant, so they remain effective following a bath (with or without shampoo treatment), or even after your dog goes for a swim. Therefore, there is no need to remove the collar for bathing. However, using a gentle, soap-free pet shampoo is recommend. Under normal conditions, the collar's effectiveness should last for 8 months. In order to make sure it lasts this long, you shouldn't bathe your dog more than once per month.

Yes, you can absolutely place the Seresto collar on Figgy after a flea and tick bath. If you are still seeing live fleas, it may also be worth giving him a dose of Capstar, which will kill the adult fleas quickly, providing a bit of relief. Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. You should not apply Seresto collar on a wet dog, so as long as they are dry now it is ok to put the collar on. Please, note that it takes about 24hrs for the collar to fully work. Side effects to Seresto collar are uncommon, but please monitor your dogs for signs like excessive skin itching, local hair loss on the neck, red, inflamed skin around the neck.

To be safe, you should wait 2-3 weeks before switching to a Seresto collar. IN the meantime, treat the environment for fleas. Vacuum everywhere then dispose of the vacuum bag or empty the canister outdoors immediately after. Wash all bedding in the hottest water allowable by fabric. Use an area treatment, such as Indorex or Knockout ES, to kill fleas in the home. A majority of the flea population actually lives off the pet, hopping on to feed then hopping off. Discuss a product to kill adult fleas with your veterinarian. CapStar would be safe to use even if you applied a topical preventive. However, it will only kill adult fleas that are on Tybalt.

It is ok to use Seresto along with other topical products, just not oral ones. In some pets there can be a little skin irritation, so watch out for that and notify your vet if this happens. Otherwise, you should be fine to go ahead with Seresto to see if this does the trick. I would also recommend using a flea fogger to treat your home, which can be found at your local Home Depot or Lowe's. If you still don't have good results with the Seresto collar, then I would wait at least 2 weeks and consider better products such as Simparica or Nexgard. You can give Nova a flea and tick bath at Petsmart, but I would either give her the Seresto flea collar or the Simparica, not both. It's typically not recommended to give two flea and tick treatments to a dog. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
