Why is my dog barking so much at the front door and window?

It sounds like Sofi may be barking because she hears something outside - this is a common reason that many dogs bark. You can help by turning on a TV, white noise machine, or something else to help block outdoor sounds. Another good strategy is to call her to you for a treat every time she starts to bark - if you're consistent about this, she will learn to automatically run to you for her treat when she hears a noise, instead of barking.

Poor Draco! He probably is barking more now because it worked to scare away the burglar and so he feels the need to protect you and the house. Barking can be hard to stop because often times the "reward" of someone going away easily reinforces the barking outside of your control, especially if it's a delivery or postman stopping by. You can work on it a few ways, by either having him greet people at the door by sitting nicely and accepting a treat (basically refocusing his behavior on sitting and waiting instead of barking), or by distracting him with something such as a Kong or chew toy when people come by to divert his attention. Working on commands such as quiet or even speak can help him associate barking with those as well instead of what's at the door. If the barking continues, talking with a local trainer is also a good idea as they will better be able to observe the behavior in person and provide a more tailored response.

That would be very annoying for you! It could be that he is bored, something has frightened him, he could be lonely, or he could be hearing something you cannot (dogs have better hearing than humans). If he doesn't sleep in your room with you, you can try bringing him in with you, and he could sleep next to the bed. If that's not an option, you can give him a toy to play with, or one that is a puzzle toy he has to solve in order to get a treat. You can try doing a big walk with him before bed to tire him out, which will help him sleep through the night.

As a general rule, dogs will be able to smell and hear much better than we can at all times, and at night, they can see much better because of the way their eyes are made. Consequently, it is likely either a person (could be pretty far off) or, more likely, a wild animal is entering Rusty's field of senses in one way or another. The challenging part, once you know what he is barking at, will be to redirect his attention because, to him, he is protecting his pack/territory. This carries a strong instinct-driven behavior that requires a lot of time and diligence to correct if you want him to stop. I would encourage you to make sure of what he is focusing on if you can, then try to desensitize him to whatever that is. Hope this helps!

There is defiantly a stressor our there initiating this behavior. Since it only occurs at a single spot I would place him back in a kennel and keep a white noise machine in to help mask the sounds. They also make pheromones you can use in that area to help keep him calm

It sounds like something really agitated poor Lucky! If it is daytime, checking for anything that could have caused it such as new people in the area, strange animals, etc may let you know what the problem was. If he starts up barking again, or is agitated even during the daytime, or has other strange symptoms, having a vet take a look at him may be helpful. Hounds are VERY good at smelling and hearing things that people can't (as that's what they're bred to do) so while there may not be anything in your direct area, he could still be smelling an animal nearby! Keeping Lucky distracted with a puzzle toy, new smelly piece of food to deter his nose, or a Kong stuffed with treats may help.

That must be exhausting for you! Harvey could be thinking he's protecting you, so he's barking at every sound to let everyone know that he's there and to stay away. He also could be anxious. I'm not sure if you crate him at night or not, but if you don't, I'd recommend crating him at night. It will give him a safe space of his own to sleep in at night, and you can have the crate in your room if you'd like. I'd also make sure to get Harvey plenty of exercise during the day, especially at night before bed . Tiring him out will help him sleep better. He could be bored as well at night, causing the barking. You can put some toys in his crate to keep him busy, such as puzzle toys that he has to solve to get the treat. Should these methods not work, I'd recommend speaking to a professional behavioral expert on other things you can try to stop him barking all night.
