How to stop my dog from barking at cars and chasing motorcycles?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 3 years and 6 months old | 50 lbs

Hello, I already asked a question about my dog being afraid of other dogs but I had 2 more questions! -He has car anxiety and barks at every car he sees in the car and whines. I just bought the thundercap and have been training with that, just wanted to know if there were any other suggestions. -Motorcycles. Today he almost broke loose from me during a run to chase a motorcycle. Any help would be appreciated!

Use a head harness such as the Gentle Leader or Halti. Either will allow for more control as well as let you correct negative behaviors quickly. Consider a pheromone product such as the Adaptil collar or DAP diffuser.
Gradual desensitization to vehicles should also be started. Get him used to being around one car at a time. Be patient and be consistent. Offer praise and rewards as he progresses.
