How to stop my dog from pulling and barking at cars on city walks?

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. I would recommend using a Gentle Leader collar to help control him better. When he stops and you tug on the leash, it will pull his entire head to the side you are pulling making it uncomfortable for him to the point that he should respond to your command. Be persistent with this technique and don't give in to him stopping in the road. Dogs test us and will continue to push boundaries to find out what they can get away with. Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Lucci's behavior is common. He is still young and you can still work on this. I would take him to a trainer to have him learn the "leave it" and "look" commands. I would purchase a gentle leader face harness and use that on walks. Do not take him off the leash around other dogs or children until he listens to you perfectly. Little breed dogs are loud and they bark. Some are more pushy with their dominance and you will need to figure out how much Lucci will exhibit these behaviors as he grows up and reaches social/behavioral maturity (up to 3 years of age). Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It sounds like you have been doing some one on one training and small groups, and that has been going well. If that is the case, I suppose I would try adding one dog at a time, and not moving to more dogs until the behavior is controlled. If 2 or 3 is going well, then add a 4th, and change who that 4th dog is. Perhaps you will find that there is one particular dog that is the instigator, and you can work more one on one with that dog. Make sure you are telling them what TO do (i.e. sit, lay down, stay, etc.) instead of what NOT to do. Give them a job, and reward them for doing that job. Have patience, and keep working at it! Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! This is tough! He sure is cute! I recommend using the gentle leader head collar for better control and asking for sedatives like trazadone from your Vet. Do not take him to these places until you train him to look at you (with treats) in social situations. This will take some time. You may want to pay for private training lessons so you can focus on this one behavior. There is no instant fix but being proactive, like you are, is a good step! Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would recommend using the gentle leader harness for the muzzle as it allows the most wonderful control of the head. I would highly recommend a trainer or working diligently with Gnocchi (GREAT name for a Corgi by the way) on the "look" and "leave it" command while using the gentle leader. If a few months of training doesn't help I would use a short-acting sedative or long acting anti-anxiety medications to help along with training. The goal of medicating wouldn't be forever but to gain control of the situation, so worse case a a year or so. I would also suggest castration if you are still struggling. Good luck!

Use a head harness such as the Gentle Leader or Halti. Either will allow for more control as well as let you correct negative behaviors quickly. Consider a pheromone product such as the Adaptil collar or DAP diffuser. Gradual desensitization to vehicles should also be started. Get him used to being around one car at a time. Be patient and be consistent. Offer praise and rewards as he progresses.

It would definitely be a good idea to try a front clip harness like a Gentle Leader. The pressure across the chest can help you maintain better control.
