My Yorkshire Terrier has a bald spot near his eye. Should I worry?

This does not look too dramatic, however I would observe the bald spot. If it enlarges or if other bald spots appear, then this may be ringworm which would need to be treated by a vet. Should crusts appear or the skin start to look scaly around the eye(s) your dog may be suffering from demodex mites, which nowadays is easily treated, if necessary.

If not, he may have irritated the upper eyelid from pawing at the eye. Dogs will do this secondary to an eye infection or a scratch across the surface of the eye. He will need to see his veterinarian as he will likely need treatment. In the meantime, try to prevent him from scratching the eye. I hope this information helps!

From the photographs, the skin does not look red which is very unusual to see with hair loss. Try to remember if there was any history of trauma to this area as maybe it is a scar. Sometimes you can see here follicles synchronize in their growth and loss cycles so it’s possible it could come back on its own. Skin mites are another possibility. A trip to your veterinarian may be beneficial as they can perform a quick and easy diagnostic to look for mites. They can also check her for other evidence of skin disease. In general providing pets with an omega three fatty acid supplement for dogs tends to be beneficial to the skin. Make sure to keep the area free from trauma. Without a photo it would be hard to say. Irritation from rubbing, minor allergies, etc can all be potential causes. If the area becomes bothersome, doesn't heal, changes in size or shape, becomes red, or oozes debris, then it should be checked out by your vet.

This looks like a staph skin infection. I suggest you use these medicated wipes on the affected area twice a day. If no improvement (or only minimal improvement) after 7-10 days of treatment then you should have Abby to your vet for an exam. This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths (be careful that the eye does not get in contact with it). Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching.
