My dog has a bald spot near his eye after removing crusty gunk. Will fur regrow?

If it is not associated with an itch or eye discharge, it is ok to monitor for now as it will likely improve on its own. Hair loss in that area is generally due to allergies, mites or less likely and autoimmune disease. You can try giving Shadow an over the counter antihistamine to see if it helps. Wipe his eyes out daily to keep them clean. If he is rubbing the eyes, put an elizabethan collar on him to protect them. If you are not seeing any improvement, or if he is getting worse, I would recommend a vet visit. Taking care of things early is much better. I hope this helps Shadow.

It will eventually fall off and the hair grow back if this was just a simple infection. If you do not find any discharge and it does not smell bad, this is likely healing so it would be best to not take the scab off. Good luck and have a great day!

Depending on the breed and eye conformation, some dogs will have tears that spill over the inside corner of the eye instead of draining down the tear ducts as they should. If this has been a life-long problem for Ziggy, then it may be due to his body conformation. However, there are some skin complications that can come from the crusting on the fur and some treatments that can either improve the eye draining or help prevent skin problems from the fur crusting, so I do think it would be worth having your vet examine Ziggy Stardust to see if there is anything you can do about this situation. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Bruno! I would have him rechecked. I would clean the skin and shave the fur away. I would consider oral steroids and oral antibiotics. I would also consider treating with with Nexgard to rule out demodex. I would also consider a different eye ointment, one with a steroid in it. Be sure your Vet checks to be sure he doesn't have a clogged tear duct or any other ocular issue that would cause increased tearing. I hope this helps and I wish you and Bruno the very best!

If the symptoms are improving with sporimmune then this is most likely an immune mediated issue such as allergy/hypersensitivity which may require lifelong management. Fallen hair takes 6-8 weeks to regrow once inflammation subsides so it may be up to 3months before there is a noticable cosmetic improvement

This does not look too dramatic, however I would observe the bald spot. If it enlarges or if other bald spots appear, then this may be ringworm which would need to be treated by a vet. Should crusts appear or the skin start to look scaly around the eye(s) your dog may be suffering from demodex mites, which nowadays is easily treated, if necessary.
