My dog has a bald patch on his leg. Is it demodex after a snake bite?

Hello, The two puncture wounds do appear that they could be from a bite wound. A small dog, cat, or snake is possible. I only see one picture, but since she is still alive a day after the bite, it is not likely to be from a venomous snake. The first picture of the brown legs looks very suspicious of possibly mites to me, especially if he is itchy. The other 2 pictures looks ok like they might just be an elbow callous and I am less worried about that. Regardless, I would encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian soon. It is normal for some dogs to have less fur on their underside, but it sounds like it has been getting worse which is not normal. It is also not normal for there to be round spots on the skin. Demodex normally just causes hair loss, but it can also cause a secondary bacterial infection. Unfortunately, it is often impossible to determine what is going by just looking at the skin, but there are some simple skin tests that can be performed to evaluate for demodex, other mites, or secondary infections (bacterial, yeast or fungal) by looking at a sample under the microscope. I would recommend having Dakota evaluated by your veterinarian to determine what is going on and how to treat it. Be sure not to bathe him immediately before having him evaluated since they will need to be able to get a sample. I hope that was helpful! It looks like it is on the right thigh? It is possible that this could be a deep skin infection, a demodex mite problem, a mass (tumor), or even a Rabies vaccine reaction site. I would encourage you to have a follow up appointment with your veterinarian. They may recommend looking for mites, an oral antibiotic, or even a biopsy. I am suspicious that this could be a lesion caused by either demodex mite or ringworm. I would highly encourage you to have a follow up appointment with your veterinarian. A skin scrape can be done to look for mites, they may consider a trial anti mite therapy in addition to an a topical anti fungal medication. Poor Dewey! I'm so sorry to hear of his skin troubles. Dewey could be dealing with a number of potential problems. It is difficult to tell from your photo, but it is possible that Dewey is having a reaction to some sort of biting fly or similar. You could try an over the counter topical parasite preventative that targets biting flying insects and see if this helps. The lesions may have become infected, contributing to the scabbed appearance. Patchy hairloss and lesions like this can also indicate a problem called demodex-caused by tiny mites that live in the skin. These tiny bugs can only be treated with certain medications, and can cause ongoing skin problems if not addressed. I would recommend having Dewey checked over by your regular veterinarian-they will perform a thorough physical examination, and may recommend some skin tests such as a skin scrape, which can give better insight into the cause of Deweys problem. Your vet will then prescribe medications as appropriate-he may be prescribed antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, medicated shampoo.
