My dog has had bad gas for hours but is acting normal. Is she okay?

Excessive gas can be a sign of eating something rotten, a change in diet, or upset stomach. As long as Thor is otherwise acting normally, I would keep an eye on him for now. If the gas gets really smelly or worse, have him seen by a vet. Best of luck.

I love her name! Horrendous gas isn't usually normal, although dogs can have some really stinky farts sometimes. Have her checked out by a vet before changing her food, there may be a medical reason behind these farts. I hope this helps.

Bella had a bit of an ileus develop after the diarrhea & antibiotics, & the gas is an indication that her bowels are moving. She will probably have a BM in the next day or so. It might also be a good idea to include a good probiotic in her diet for the next 30 days. Fortiflora is an excellent pet product, or you can use Culturelle, a human probiotic. Hello sorry to hear about Lilly. Things I would worry about with severely distended GI is a foreign body that may be causing obstruction. Other causes such as an infectious gastritis or enteritis can also cause severe gas. Finally, any inflammation of the GI tract secondary to dietary indiscretions could also cause uniform gas dilation and ileus (decreased GI motility). I would consider rechecking x-rays to compare the pattern of the gas in a couple of hours. Additionally, if Lilly is vomiting or having diarrhea or a decreased appetite, I would recommend having her re-evaluated if the signs persist. If this is gas alone, although it may be very uncomfortable for Lilly, know that it will pass on its own within several hours. However, if Lilly seems to be doing worse, have her evaluated immediately. Hope this helps and best of luck.

If your dog has not eaten or drank anything in a few days, she needs to be seen by a veterinarian immediately. Dogs can go a few days without food but they have to have water or risk severe dehydration. The gas could be caused by whatever has caused her to lose her appetite. She could have eaten something bad for her, swallowed part of a toy or other foreign object and have a blockage, or have an infection or a growth that is interfering with her digestion. She needs an exam, blood work and possibly x-rays to determine the cause of her illness. She may also need to be hospitalized to receive IV fluids and more intensive treatment.

I am so sorry to hear that Benji is experiencing an increase in flatulance, as I am sure this is unpleasant for you. With no other clinical signs present at the moment, I would suggest that Benji has eaten something that doesn't agree with him. Perhaps a days worth of bland meals to help his intestines recover would be helpful. Boiled boneless chicken breast and white steamed rice are a good option, as well as prescription bland diet dog foods. I hope that this was a useful answer and that Benji returns to normal soon.
